Tommi Hakala - Peter
Tommi Hakala studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and in Hamburg. Apart
from engagements in Nurnberg (1998-2001) and Leipzig (2001-2004) he was a
regularly guest at the Finnish National Opera and the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
In 2003 he won the BBC Singer of the World competition. Since 2008 he is member
of the ensemble of the Finnish National Opera.
Since then he gave numerous concerts in Europe and the USA, made a successful
debut with Le nozze di Figaro in San Francisco and Faust at the
Metropolitan Opera New York, he sang Don Giovanni in Turku, Danilo in
Die lustige Witwe at the Vlaamse Opera and in Bern, Carmen in
Helsinki, Don Carlo in Copenhagen and Tampere and Le nozze di Figaro
in Atlanta. Tommi Hakala appeared again at the Metropolitan Opera in La
Bohème and he made a successful debut as Belcore in L’Elisir d’amore
at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. His recording of Sibelius’s Kullevro
with Soile Isokoski under the baton of Leif Segerstam was awarded the diapason
d’or in 2008.
Recent engagements include Eugeni Onegin, La Bohème, Carmen, Faust
and Parsifal(Amfortas) in Helsinki; Mahler’s 8th symphony with the
Concertgebouw Orchestra under the baton of Mariss Jansons; Elektra
(Orest) in Montpellier; Tote Stadt (Frank-Fritz) in Bilbao; Don Carlo
(Posa) and Tristan und Isolde (Kurwenal) in Helsinki. Tommi Hakala made
his successful debut in the title role of Verdi’s Macbeth at the Aalto
Theater Essen and he was invited to the Teatro Regio in Turin for Eine
Florentinische Tragoedie.
Plans include: Die Schopfung in Savonlinna and revival of Macbeth
in Essen.
