Bass- baritone Roberto Lorenzi graduated from the Istituto “Luigi
Boccherini” in Lucca and won the first prize at the 62nd AsLiCo
Competition for the role of Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia
on tour in Lombardia. He is also a winner of the “Tito Ruffo” and
“Riccardo Zandonai” Competitions. In 2017 he was a finalist in the
“Cardiff Singer of the World” Competition.
In the summer of 2013, he took part in the Young Singers Project at the
Salzburg Festival and subsequently joined the ensemble of the Zurich
Opernhaus, after graduating from the Opera Studio of the Theatre in 2015.
Roles debuted in Zurich include: Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi
(conducted by Luisi and DVD recorded by Accentus); Prior in La
Straniera; Alidoro in Cenerentola; La Vengeance in Médée
(conducted by Christie); Don Prudenzio in a new production of Il
Viaggio a Reims; Montano in Otello; Caronte in Haydn’s Orlando
Paladino; Geronimo in Il matrimonio segreto (conducted by
Minasi); Le Gouvernuer in Le Comte Ory; Zuniga in Carmen and
Publio in La clemenza di Tito (conducted by Dantone).
Lorenzi made his debut at La Scala in Milan at the age of 22 in
Zeffirelli's acclaimed production of La Bohème (Doganiere)
conducted by Rustioni. He also sang Angelotti in Tosca; Conte
Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and the title role in Don
Giovanni in Lucca; Alidoro in La Cenerentola in Piacenza,
Pisa, Chieti and Lille; Ferrando in Trovatore for AsLiCo Circuit;
Daland in Der Fliegende Hollaender at the Teatro Olimpico in Rome;
Teatro Comunale in Bologna and Teatro Regio in Turin (Opera Domani
Project); Gualtiero in I Puritani at the Massimo in Palermo; Don
Giovanni (Leporello) in Tel Aviv; Petite Messe Solennelle in
Pesaro. He made his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amstedam in the role of
Prior in La Straniera and Colline in La Bohème in the
Circuito Marchigiano and then perform in the production of Il Viaggio
a Reims at the Musikverein in Vienna; Carmen in Caracalla;
Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and at
the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome conducted by Daniele Gatti; La
Cenerentola (Alidoro) in Martigny; Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro
at the Grange Festival in London, at the Norske Opera in Oslo and in
Bologna; Così fan tutte in Nice and Antibes; L'Ange de Nisida,
Medea in Corinto, Lucia di Lammermoor and Raffa in
the sky in Bergamo; La Cenerentola (Alidoro) in London
(Grange Festival), where he returned for Britten's A Midsummer Night's
Dream; Alceste, I Puritani, Il Tabarro in
Rome; Il Ritorno di Ulisse in patria at the Monteverdi Festival
in Cremona under Dantone; Leoncavallo’s La Boheme (Colline) in
concert version in Catania and Pelleas et Melisande in Modena and
Piacenza.
On the concert side, he performed Verdi's Requiem at the Teatro
Verdi in Pisa; Mozart's Requiem in Lucca and at the Accademia
Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome; Handel's Messiah in Madrid,
Gdansk and Seville (conducted by Biondi with Europa Galante); Rossini's Stabat
Mater with the Orchestra Sinfonica in Milan; Petite Messe
Solennelle in Paris and Perm; Beethoven's Symphony no. 9 with
I Pomeriggi Musicali conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann; Haydn's La
Creazione at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome
conducted by Gardiner; a series of concerts in Pesaro; Manfred at
the Opera in Rome; Pacini’s Gli arabi nelle Gallie and
the Rossini’s Cantata Il vero omaggio in Krakow and
Wildbad; in Bergamo; Così fan tutte in Pistoia.; Faurè's
Requiem in Padoa and Rovigo; Dvorak's Stabat Mater (piano
version) at the Carlo Felice in Genoa; I Capuleti e i Montecchi in
Liège and La Boheme (Colline) in Minorca.
Upcoming engagements include: Beethoven's Symphony n.9 on tour in
Pistoia, Perugia, Rimini and Hamburg with the Leonore Orchestra; Loreley
in Amsterdam; I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Hannover and La Bohème in
Parma and Reggio Emilia.
