Gevorg Hakobyan, born in Metsamor (Armenia), graduated in
2004 at the Yerevan Conservatory under the guidance of Sergey Danielyan.
He was finalist at the “A. Isahakian Republic” Vocal Competition (2000).
Since 2003, he is a soloist with the Yerevan Opera Theater, where he has
performed in several productions including Aleko, Arshak II
and Iolanta, to name only a few.
He participated in several oratorios performed at the John Smith Hall in
London in 2007 and the same year he was awarded a special prize for the
achievements in classical music performances by the President of the
Republic of Armenia. In 2008, he won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the
“First International Pavel Lisitsian Baritone” Competition.
Mr. Hakobyan is frequently invited to the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari,
where he has already performed: Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Legend of the
Invisible City of Kitež (Fiodor); Evgenij Onegin (title
role); Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci; Porrino’s I
Shardana (Norace).
He also performed Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at
the Mikhailovskij Theatre in St. Petersburg; Madama Butterfly
(Sharpless) in Valencia and Kiel; Cavalleria Rusticana in
Valencia, under the baton of Lorin Maazel, and in Mumbai; Aida
(Amonasro) in Armenia, at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia,
in St. Petersburg and in Mumbai; Nabucco (title role) in Kiel and
in Kazan; Carmen in Kazan. He recently returned to Valencia as
Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra beside Placido Domingo, under
the baton of Evelino Pidò. He also made his debut as Carlo Gérard in Andrea
Chénier in Kiel.
Recent engagements include: Tchaikovsky's Cherevichki (Bes) at
the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari; Tosca in St. Petersburg, Kiel,
Rome, Bologna, Turin, Lille, Madrid and Amsterdam; Simon Boccanegra
(Paolo Albiani) with the Regio di Torino on tour in Hong Kong; Nabucco
in the Circuito Marchigiano and in Caracalla; Pique Dame in
Stuttgart, Moscow and Barcelona; Andrea Chenier (Mathieu) in Rome;
Cavalleria Rusticana in Rome, Palermo and Genoa; Tosca and
Iolanta in Valencia;Tsar’s bride, Iolanta, Tosca and Mazepa
at the Bolshoi in Moscow; Otello in Lisbon; La Forza del
destino and Aida in Frankfurt; Aida in Turin and
Madrid; Madama Butterfly and Aida at the Arena di Verona;
Il Tabarro at the Filarmonico in Verona.
Upcoming engagements in Italy include: Simon Boccanegra (Paolo
Albiani) and Tosca (il barone Scarpia) al Teatro dell'Opera di
Roma.
