David Astorga was born in Costa Rica in 1988. He began his studies in
history and performing arts (music) at the National University of Costa
Rica and then continued at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.
David Astorga has been in several young singer programs, such as
International Opera Academy (Gent, Belgium), Centre de Perfeccionament
Plácido Domingo (Valencia, Spain), Scuola dell’Opera (Bologna) and
Tenerife Opera Studio (Tenerife, Spain).
The young tenor has performed main roles and concerts in opera houses
around the world like: Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Teatro Regio di Parma,
Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla, Estonian
National Opera, Teatro Sociale di Como, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia,
Flemish Opera Antwerp, Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica, Teatro Nacional de
República Dominicana, Arts Center Philippines and Opera de Tenerife, where
he has been resident artist since 2016.
Astorga has also won several International Singing Competitions: “Maria
Callas” (2015), “Salice d’Oro” (2017), Tenerife (2018).
He sang with conductors such as: Roberto Abbado, Francesco Ivan Ciampa,
Sigiswald Küijken, Fabio Biondi, Zubin Mehta, Evelino Pidò, Giampaolo
Bisanti among others.
David recently performed: Falstaff (Fenton) in Las Palmas, Lucrezia
Borgia, La Traviata (Alfredo), La Tabernera del Puerto,
Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Fuenteovejuna and
Francesca da Rimini in Tenerife; Rossini's Petite messe
solennelle in Perm; Rigoletto in Busseto; L’Elisir
d’amore in Bologna and Cagliari; Macbeth in Nice, Antibes
and at the Verdi Festival in Parma; Rossini's Stabat Mater in
Cagliari; Lucia di Lammermoor and La Traviata at the
Teatro Massimo in Palermo; Donizetti's Il Giovedì grasso in Ancona;
Carmina Burana in Parma; Roberto Devereux (title role) in
Kosice; Lucrezia Borgia in Budapest and Pecs; Il turco in
Italia (Albazar) in Monte Carlo and at the Staatsoper in Vienna; Pagliacci
(Peppe/Arlecchino) at the Sferisterio in Macerata; Andrea Chénier
(Abate) in Monte Carlo; La Bohème (Rodolfo) at the Massimo Bellini
in Catania; the title role in Moniuszko’s Il paria at the Frederic
Chopin Festival in Warsaw under Fabio Biondi; Lucie de Lammermoor (Gilbert)
at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo; I Capuleti e i Montecchi
(Tebaldo) in Nancy; Andrea Chénier (Abate) in in Zurich.
Plans include: Macbeth (French version) at the Verdi
Festival in Parma; Roberto Devereux at the Donizetti Festival in
Bergamo and Rovigo and La Traviata (Alfredo) in Dijon.
