Shoushik Barsoumian - Oscar
Ms. Barsoumian is the recipient of the Critic’s Award of the 2013 Ottavio Ziino
Competition in Rome and the 3rd place recipient of the 2012 Premio
Internazionale di Canto Lirico Santa Chiara Competition in Naples.
With an interest in both operatic and ensemble music repertoire, Shoushik
Barsoumian has been performing in both the United States and Europe since 2010,
appearing as Musetta in La Bohème, Dama Verdi’s Macbeth, Nancy in
Britten’s Albert Herring, Woman in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine,
Yum-Yum in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado, both Lusnak and Suheylé in
Tigran Tchouhadjian’s Leblebiji and Zemire respectively.
Her involvement in ensemble music has been extensive, having performed the
soprano solo in Stravinsky's Svadebka, many of Tigran Mansurian’s vocal
works, including the cycles Four Hayrens, Madrigals, and Canti
Paralleli (which she also premiered both in the US and Armenia), and the
premiere of the song cycle on Y. Charents poems entitled Fire of Sacrifice,
written specifically for her by American composer Ian Krouse.
In 2013 she debuted the role of Musetta in La Bohème at St. Margarethen
Festival.
Among her most recent engagements, just to name a few: a new production of
Rigoletto (Gilda) at Bucarest Opera and Adina in L’elisir d’amore at
Teatro Manoel in Malta.
