Paolo Rumetz started his voice studies in his native town of Trieste at the
Tartini Music Conservatory, then specializing in Munich with Josef Metternich
and in Rome with Carlo Guelfi. He attended master classes with Claudio Desderi
at the Music Academy in Fiesole. He made his debut in Cimarosa's Il Maestro
di Cappella, subsequently performing in La Notte, pastiche of
Mozart's works, at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto in 1987.
Remarkable his performances in: Un Giorno di Regno, Madama Butterfly
and Il Processo at La Scala in Milan, Falstaff in Rovigo,
Bolzano, Trento and Salzburg, and the prestigious debut at Zurich Opera House
in Il Turco in Italia with Cecilia Bartoli and Ruggero Raimondi
(Dynamic). In Zurich he
also sung I quatro rusteghi, Falstaff, La Forza del Destino e Il
Segreto di Susanna. Among other engagements: L’Elisir d’Amore(Dulcamara)
at the Liceu in Barcelona; Don Quixote at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Il
Turco in Italia (Don Geronio) at the Opera in Rome and in Leipzig, L’Italiana
in Algeri (Taddeo) in Lisbon and the title role in Falstaff at the
Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
In addition to his vast operatic repertory, he maintains an active concert
schedule, including such works as Frescobaldi's Praecursor Domini,
Hasse's La Conversione di San Agostino, Carmina Burana and
Mahler's Lieder eines farhenden Geselle.
Mr. Rumetz
recently performed: Il Segreto di Susanna, Convenienze e Inconvenienze
teatrali and I Pazzi per progetto in Zurich; Il Barbiere di
Siviglia in Salzburg; La Wally and La Gioconda in St. Gallen;
Simon Boccanegra on tour in Japan.
Particularly interesting is his collaboration with the Wiener Staatsoper, where
Mr Rumetz, as part of its ensemble, was engaged in Il Barbiere di Siviglia,
La Cenerentola and L'Elisir d'Amore.
Plans include
revivals of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, L’Elisir d’Amore and La
Cenerentola in Vienna.
