Francesco Calcagnini was born in Pesaro and graduated in 1985 in set design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino. He combines both set and costume design in speaking theatre, opera and ballet with his position as professor in Set Design at the Urbino Academy of Fine Arts. He has collaborated with directors including Raffaella Giordano, Giorgio Rossi, Lorenza Codignola, Stefano Vizioli, Pino Micol, Federico Tiezzi, Gabriele Vacis, Antonio Calenda, Dario Fo, Emilio Sagi and Luca Ronconi. Collaborations in productions of the last years include: Yvonne Princesse de Bourgogne at Det Norske Teatret in Oslo with the Director Cilla Back; revival at Rossini Opera Festival and Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao of L'Equivoco Stravagante with Director Emilio Sagi; Passage to India with Director Federico Tiezzi at Teatro Metastasio in Prato; set and costumes for El laboratorio del Dr. Fausto at the Teatro Real in Madrid and with Director Guy Montavon Stiffelio at Teatro Regio di Parma and Otello at Theater Erfurt. Future plans include Stiffelio in Bilbao and the revival of Otello in Theater Erfurt.
