Eimuntas Nekrosius - director

Eimuntas Nekrosius is considered one of the most interesting director of our time.

After graduating from the Art Institute Lunačarski Moscow (1978) and worked at the Kaunas Drama Theatre (1979-80), he made his debut as a director with Taste of Honey by Shelagh Delaney. In 1993 he was director of the International Festival of Theatre Lithuanian (LIFE), and in 1998 he founded the independent arts center Meno Fortas that he currently heads. In his artistic path explored literary works from the great Russian authors to Shakespeare. He created unusual shows characterized by richness and variety of vitalistic invention that have been presented in many theaters in the world. In 2002 he made his debut as director of lyric opera, directing Macbeth at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence and then revived at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.  

Eimuntas Nekrosius was awarded by prestigious prizes such as: Lithuanian Theatre Union prize for the best director of the year (1994/1998); the New Theatre Realia prize of Taormin Arts Committee and European Theatre Union (1994); the Best Director's prize of the Baltiysky dom festival, St. Petersburg, Russia (1995); Premio Abbiati for the best foreign performance shown in Italy (1996, 1998, 2000, 2007); the Golden Mask National Theatre Prize for the best foreign performances shown in Russia (1999, 2004); Lithuanian national Culture and Art Premium (1997); The International Stanislavsky Fund premium, Moscow, Russia (2001); Ministry's of Culture premium (2001, 2003); Letter of Honor "For the Spread of Lithuanian Theatre Culture" from the Lithuanian Institute of Awards "LT Identity 2004"; Herder Prize (2005); honorary Award of the 16th International Istanbul Theatre Festival (2008).

Eimuntas Nekrosius was artistic director at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza for 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 seasons.

  

Nadezda Gultiajeva

Nadezda Gultiajeva – set and costume design

Nadezda Gultiajeva was born in Irkutsk, Russia. Mrs Gultiajeva graduated from Irkutsk Art College, department of scenography. In 1972-1973 she was the chief designer of State Youth Theatre of Irkutsk, she has attended High Producer Courses in GITIS (Moscow) and worked on probation with Eduard Kochergin in St. Petersburg. From 1976 lives and works in Lithuania.

She has designed sets and costumes for Eimuntas Nekrosius’ productions of Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, Cherry Orchard by Chekhov, Hamlet and Othello by Shakespeare, costumes for Life and Death in Verona by Antanelis and Geda, Macbeth by Shakespeare, Ivanov by Chekhov, The Seasons by Donelaitis, Song of the Songs based on the poem from the Old Testament, Faust by Goethe, Idiot by Dostoyevsky, Caligula by Camus, Dante’s Divine Comedy, Macbeth by Verdi and Boris Godunov by Musorgsky at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Children of Rosenthal at Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, sets for The Seven Deadly Sins by Kurt Weil, costumes for Die Walkuere by Wagner and Otello by Verdi at National Opera of Lithuania, Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh by Rimsky Korsakov at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari.

In 2002 was awarded the Theatrical Critic’s Prize of Lithuania as best designer of the season, in 2004 was nominated for the “Golden Mask” award in Moscow.

Marius Nekrosius - set designer

Marius Nekrosius was born in Palanga, Lithuania in 1976. In 1995-2002 studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius (VDA). Since 1998 is working for theatre as a stage designer. He was invited for important production in theatres such as: National Drama Theater in  Vilnius, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Bolshoi in Moscow, Teatro Argentina in Rome, La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Petruzzelli in Bari, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw,  just to name a few.

In 2005 Marius Nekrosius was nominated for the “Golden Mask” award in Moscow, and was awarded the Theatrical Critic’s Prize of Lithuania as best stage designer of the season. In 2009 was awarded the UBU prize for the best drama performance design in Italy for Anna Karenina, then in 2010  he won the 1st place in the international architectural competition for a new Russian Drama theatre in Astana, Kazakhstan
