Andrea Molino - conductor
Andrea Molino has established a reputation as a conductor in great demand on the
international scene. He is equally at ease in 20th- and 21st-century music (with
numerous world premieres) and in the traditional operatic and symphonic
repertoire: he has conducted, among other works, Verdi’s ‘popular trilogy’ (Rigoletto,
Il Trovatore and La traviata), Macbeth and Un Ballo in
Maschera, as well as Alban Berg’s Lulu and Shostakovich’s Lady
Macbeth of the Mtsensk District; and works by Mozart and Haydn, as well as
Mahler and Richard Strauss; Rossini as well as Schoenberg, Webern and
Stravinsky.
Mr. Molino opened the 2014 Melbourne Spring Season and the 2015 Sydney Summer
Season for Opera Australia respectively with Puccini's Tosca and La
Bohème and the NYE Gala at the Sydney Opera House. For Opera Australia he
had previously conducted Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera (directed by La
Fura dels Baus) and Macbeth and Rossini's Il Turco in Italia among
others. In 2014 he conducted his own opera - there is no why here - at
the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; the piece was then performed in 2015 at deSingel
in Antwerp for the OperaXXI Festival. Particularly interesting also his
collaboration with La Fenice in Venice where in the past seasons he conducted:
world première of Bruno Maderna’s Requiem for the concert season opening
night 2010; Heiner Goebbels’ Surrogate Cities for Music Biennale opening
night; world première of Mosca’s Signor Goldoni and Ambrosini’s Il
killer di parole.
Mr. Molino recently conducted the world première Aghet with Dresden
Simphoniker, a project in commemoration of the Armenian genocide in Berlin.
Mr. Molino conducted, among others, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale
Fiorentino, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Brussels
Philharmonic, the Bochum Symphonic, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe,
the Dresden Symphonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre
Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the
Edinburgh International Festival, as well as appearing at the Vienna
Konzerthaus, Sydney Festival, Berliner Festspiele in the Philharmonie in Berlin,
Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane Festival, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro
dell’Opera in Rome, Opera National de Nancy, Staatstheater Darmstadt, RomaEuropa
Festival, Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart, Zagreb Biennale and Hellerau
Dresden.
Andrea Molino recorded for labels as Stradivarius (Milan), Naïve (Paris), ECM
(Munich) and Dynamic (Genoa), and his performances and recordings have been
programmed by the major international broadcasting companies.
Mr. Molino returns to Opera Australia where last January he conducted Il
Barbiere di Siviglia.
Plans include: series of concerts with the Royal Schottish National Orchestra in
Glasgow and for Opera Australia King Roger (Sydney and Melbourne).
