One of today’s rare true altos, Sara Mingardo is a highly sought-after and greatly appreciated interpreter of a vast repertory.

She is a regular guest of some of the most prestigious theatrical institutions, enjoying successful collaborations with such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Myung Whun-Chung, Paul Daniel, Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Emmanuelle Häim, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Roger Norrington, Trevor Pinnock, Maurizio Pollini, Christophe Rousset, Jordi Savall, Peter Schreier and Jeffrey Tate and prestigious international orchestras: Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Monteverdi Choir e Orchestra, Concerto Italiano, Les Talens Lyriques and Academia Montis Regalis.

Her operatic repertory includes works by Gluck, Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Rossini, Verdi, Cavalli, Mozart, Donizetti, Schumann and Berlioz. In concert, she also performs Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorák, Mahler, Pergolesi and Respighi. Sara Mingardo studied with Franco Ghitti at the “Benedetto Marcello” Conservatory in Venice, her native town, and completed her studies with a scholarship at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Winner of several national and international vocal competitions, she made her debut in Il Matrimonio Segreto (Fidalma) and La Cenerentola (title role). In 2009, the Association of Italy’s Music Critics awarded her with the prestigious “Premio Abbiati”.

In the past season she performed: L’Orfeo (Speranza) at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan; Armida al Campo d’Egitto (Armida) with Rinaldo Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano in Paris and Vienna; Tamerlano (Andronico) in London; Messiah with Concerto Italiano and Rinaldo Alessandrini in Paris and in Spain; Mahler’s Symphony n.3 in Rome and Madrid; Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria (Penelope) at the Festival International Musique Baroque de Beaune and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and L’Italia del Destino at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence.

Sara Mingardo interpreted Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in numerous prestigious theatres and festivals: on tour with Claudio Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart in Bologna, Modena, at the Morimondo Abbey (close to Milan) and in Jesi; under the baton of Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Festival Anima Mundi in Pisa; at Musikfesten in Bremen; with Rinaldo Alessandrini at the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia in Rome; at the Barbican Hall in London; at the Salle Pleyel in Paris; with Harry Bicket at the “die Singel” in Antwerp; with Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone in Madrid.

She then performed in Mahler’s Symphony n.8 at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome Antonio Pappano conducting; Mozart Requiem in Venice; Bach's Magnificat in Chicago; Missa Sanctae Ceciliae in Padua; Farnace in Amsterdam; Kindertotenlieder in Bologna under Claudio Abbado; Il trionfo del tempo e del Disinganno with Il Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini on a European tour; concerts in Bologna, Salzburg and Luzern again with Claudio Abbado; Caccini’s Euridice at the Innsbruck Festival with Rinaldo Alessandrini; Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Antonio Pappano; Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria in Zurich (under Ivor Bolton). Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice had organized a concert in honour of Sara Mingardo's career.

Sara Mingardo also starred in L'Incoronazione di Poppea (Ottone) at La Scala in Milan under Rinaldo Alessandrini; Giulio Cesare at the Regio in Turin ; Mahler's Kindertotenlieder at the Amici della Musica in Florence; Medea in Genève; Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai in Turin under Fabio Biondi; Dvorak's Stabat Mater in Paris (Orchestre de Chambre de Paris); Liederabend at Ferrara Musica with Enrico Pace; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Jesi (Fondazione Pergolesi- Spontini) and then in Mestre with the Teatro La Fenice.

Most recently she interpreted a solo concert in Lisbon with Divino Sospiro and in Rome (IUC) with Accademia degli Astrusi; Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto; Händel’s Messiah under Natalie Stutzmann in Detroit and in Washington with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra; Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno at the Teatro alla Scala under Diego Fasolis; Brahms’Alto Rhapsody at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Daniele Gatti and at the Opera in Florence under Albrecht; Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater at the Musica Sacra Festival in Münster; Bach’s Johannes-Passion with Musica Saeculorum in Essen and Aix- en- Provence; Mendelssohn’s Elias with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under Daniele Gatti and then in Copenhagen; a solo recital at the Grand Théâtre de Genève; Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno in Aix-en-Provence under Haïm, at the Staatsoper in Berlin and then in Caen and Lille; Mahler’s 8th Symphony at the Lucerne Festival under Riccardo Chailly; Vivaldi’s L’Incoronazione di Dario at the Teatro Regio in Turin under Dantone; Mozart’s Requiem with the London Philarmonic Orchestra under the baton of Natalie Stutzmann; Messaggera in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Leizpig under Savall; Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (Penelope) at the Staatsoper Hamburg under Jean-Christophe Spinosi; a baroque concert in Lugo for “Purtimiro” Festival with Rinaldo Alessandrini; Mahler’s Wesendonck Lieder with Geneva Camerata; Handel’s Messiah at the Musikverein in Vienna; Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the Wiener Konzerthaus and in Luxembourg under Gustavo Gimeno and with the Accademia in Santa Cecilia and in London with the London Philarmonic Orchestra; Mozart’s Requiem on tour in France under the baton of Raphael Pichon and a baroque concert at the Auditorio Nacional in Oviedo and Madrid with Forma Antiqva ensemble; Mahler's 3rd Symphony in Cologne;  Mahler’s 2nd Symphony at Teatro La Fenice; Mozart Requiem with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti conducting and in Aix-en-provence; Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (Penelope) in Hamburg; Giulio Cesare (Cornelia), Roméo et Juliette (Gertrude) at la Scala in Milan; Mozart's Requiem in Adelaide; Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Rome.

Recent engagements: Bach's Trilogy in Paris and on tour; Mozart Requiem in Atlanta,Vienna and Brussels; Falstaff at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Orfeo ed Euridice in La Coruna; Johannes' Passion in Mantua.
