Praised for her “resonant, richly colored” and “crystalline” voice, soprano
Julia Muzychenko is a rising star on the international opera and concert
scene.
As a member of the Junges Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden, she
performed Musetta in La Bohème, Olympia in Les Contes
d’Hoffmann, Sandmännchen/Taumännchen in Hänsel und Gretel,
and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte.
In recent seasons, she has sung Gilda in Rigoletto in her debut
at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and with Ludovic Tézier and Luca Salsi at her
debut at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl; Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi
with the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Musetta in a return to the
Opéra national de Montpellier; reprised Oxana in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Christmas
Eve with Oper Frankfurt; and performed Violetta in La Traviata
with Nuits Lyriques de Marmande, the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo
Domingo in Bogotá, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Grand Opéra
d’Avignon, Opéra national du Rhin, and the Teatro Municipal de Lima.
Other recent appearances include Musetta in La Bohème (Opéra
national de Montpellier); the title role in Lakmé (Marmande
Festival); Oxana in Christmas Eve (Oper Frankfurt), a production
recorded and released on DVD by Naxos and awarded “Production of the Year”
by the International Opera Awards; Amina in La Sonnambula (Opéra
de Vichy, Opéra de Limoges, Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand, Opéra d’Avignon,
Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, Opéra de Reims); Violetta in La
Traviata (Verdi Festival in Busseto, Teatro Comunale di Bologna,
Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, Ópera de Tenerife); Norina in Don Pasquale
(Opéra national de Montpellier); and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus
(Hermitage Theatre, St. Petersburg).
In concert, she has performed with the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the
Belgian National Orchestra; held a concert at Berlin’s Konzerthaus with
her husband, baritone Tobias Greenhalgh; and toured South Korea. She has
appeared in recital with pianist Helmut Deutsch at the Konzerthaus Wien,
participated in the Cartagena Festival in Colombia, performed with the
Stuttgarter Philharmoniker at the Heidenheim Festival, and sang at a gala
honoring Eva Marton’s birthday at the Hungarian State Opera. She has given
a solo recital at the Shostakovich Hall in St. Petersburg and appeared as
a soloist at the Advent Concert at the Frauenkirche in Dresden (broadcast
by ZDF). She was also featured as a soloist at the prestigious 2020
SemperOpernball.
Engagements for the 2025–26 season include: Fedora at the
Deutsche Oper Berlin; Falstaff at the Opéra National de
Montpellier; and a gala concert with the KNN Philharmonic Orchestra.
She recently won 1st prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing
Competition, 3rd prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, 5th
prize at the Tenor Viñas Competition in Barcelona, the Grand Prize at the
Clermont-Ferrand International Singing Competition, 2nd prize at the
Montserrat Caballé Competition, 2nd prize at the Salici d’Oro in Vienna,
2nd prize at the Marmande Singing Competition, 2nd prize and Role Prize at
the Virgilijus Noreika International Competition in Lithuania. She also
received awards at the “Meistersinger von Nürnberg” Competition (1st Prize
and Audience Prize), the 55th Voci Verdiane International Competition in
Busseto, the “Ópera de Tenerife” Competition (1st Prize and Audience
Prize), the Crescendo International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall
(1st Prize), the Sergei Rachmaninov International Vocal Competition (1st
Prize), the Zinka Milanov Competition (2nd Prize and Audience Prize), the
Eva Marton Competition (3rd Prize), the Competizione dell’Opera (3rd Prize
and Audience Prize), and the 70th AsLiCo Competition.
She was a member of the Young Artist Program of the Bolshoi Theatre and
the Vocal Academy of Houston Grand Opera. She holds a Master’s degree in
vocal performance from the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Hochschule
für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
