Born in Mendoza (Argentina), Veronica Cangemi is one of the most versatile sopranos of the music scene today. After starting her career as a cellist, she won the first prize at the National Singing Contest in Argentina. Her European career started with Gluck’s Armide with Marc Minkowski and LesMusiciens Du Louvre in Versailles and Hänsel und Gretel at the Orchestre National de Radio France.

Much in demand in both the baroque and classical repertoire, she has performed in operas by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Scarlatti, Handel, Vivaldi, Gluck and Haydn. Mozart’s operas play an important part in her activity and she has appeared in such roles as: Weltgeist in Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots (Salzburg), Lucio Cinna in Lucio Silla (Venice and Salzburg), Ismene in Mitridate (Brussels), Ilia in Idomeneo (Antwerp, Lyon and Buenos Aires), the title role in Zaide (London), Susanna and Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro (Lyon, Washington and Paris), Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Milan, Florence, Washington and Buenos Aires), Despina and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Montpellier, Munich, Paris and Bari), Servilia La Clemenza di Tito (Glyndebourne, Florence and Salzburg), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Buenos Aires).

Veronica Cangemi’s foray in the romantic repertoire includes: Beethoven’s Fidelio (Marzelline – Rome Opera), Schubert’s Alfonso und Estrella (Estrella – in Vienna), Auber’s Le domino noir (Angèle – in Venice), Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (Adina – in Lyon), Bizet’s Carmen (Micaëla – in Tokyo and at the Covent Garden in London), Puccini’s La Bohème (Musetta and Mimì – in Dresden and Tokyo).

Widely active also in concert, her most notable appearances include: Pergolesi’s Messa di S. Emidio (Orchestra Mozart / Claudio Abbado), Mozart’s Coronation Mass (Salzburg Festival), Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (Austrian-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic / Adam Fischer), Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge (Teatro La Fenice / Marc Minkowski), Faure’s Requiem (Berliner Philharmoniker / Marc Minkowski), Mahler’s Symphony no. 4 (Orchestre National de Lille / Jean-Claude Casadesus, Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin / Marek Janowski, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France / Louis Langrée).  Moreover she sang several concerts throughout Europe, including Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai under Juraj Valcuha; Stradella's Santa Editta (concert and recording for Outhere) with Ensemble Mare Nostrum; a baroque concert with Collegium 1704 and Vaclav Luks in Versailles and Vienna; Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Warsaw Philharmonic under Stefano Montanari in Warsaw; Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor with Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini at the International Festival Wratislawia Cantans.

Among her recent engagements are: Carmen (Micaëla) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, alongside Anna Caterina Antonacci and Roberto Alagan under the baton of Daniel Oren; Idomeneo (Ilia) at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires; Handel’s Radamisto (Polissena) with Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra under Martin Haselböck in Mexico City; Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna) under Giovanni Antonini at the International Festival Wratislawia Cantans; baroque concert at the Musikfest in Bremen with Il Pomo d'Oro and Kate Aldrich; new production of Pagliacci (Nedda) and Haendel’s Alcina (Morgana) at the Semperoper in Dresden; Serse (Atalanta) with Ensemble Matheus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi in Budapest and Barcelona; Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) in Liège and Charleroi under Rinaldo Alessandrini; Vivaldi’s L’Incoronazione di Dario (Arpago) at the Teatro Regio in Turin under Ottavio Dantone; Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea in Mexico, Barcelona and Bilbao with the Ensemble Matheus under Spinosi; Caldara's La Concordia de' pianeti in Basel and Amsterdam con Andrea Marcon

Veronica Cangemi’s extensive discography includes: Handel’s Ariodante and Caldara’s La concordia de’ pianeti (Archiv), Scarlatti’s Griselda and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (Harmonia Mundi), Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso, Ottone in Villa, Griselda, La fida ninfa and a solo album (Naïve), Richard Strauss’ Der Bürger als Edelmann and Handel’s Fernando (Virgin Classics), Gluck’s L’innocenza giustificata (DHM), Rossini’s Tancredi (BMG-RCA) and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Orfeo). Productions in which she has performed that have been released as DVDs include: Lucio Silla (Deutsche Grammophon), Alcina (Arthaus), Ercole amante and Deidamia (Opus Arte); Stradella’s Santa Editta (title role) With Mare Nostrum (Alpha- Outhere).

Plans include:  Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito again in Liege; Vivaldi’s Il Giustino with Accademia Bizantina and Ottavio Dantone on tour (Bucarest and Lausanne); Turandot (Liù) in Buenos Aires.
