Valerio Galli

Viareggio native, Valerio Galli was born in the cradle where some of the greatest Verismo operas were ever written. Therefore, it is no surprise that his career launched at the age of 27, with Tosca for the 53rd Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. This production was released on DVD on the Dynamic label and won him the Gold Mask 2007 Prize for Young Emerging Conductors. He was also awarded the 42° edition of the Premio Puccini” for future outstanding artistry in the repertoire.

Valerio Galli is currently principal guest conductor at the Opera in Toulon. He received his diploma in piano with the highest honors under Fabrizio Papi and Nadia Puccinelli and took masterclasses with Paul Badura-Skoda, Bruno Canino, Piero Rattalino, Franco Scala, enjoying a brief career as a concert pianist, giving concerts all over the world. He graduated in Composition with Pietro Rigacci and then specialized with Piero Bellugi, Aldo Faldi, Donato Renzetti and Carlo Moreno Volpini.

Amongst his past engagements: Madama Butterfly at the Opéra de Toulon, a symphonic concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Tosca and La Rondine at the Teatro del Maggio in Florence; Tosca at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and at the Massimo Bellini in Catania; Tosca and Carmen at the Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit and the Teatro Coccia in Novara (after his La Traviata won him public and critical acclaim); Turandot at the San Diego Civic Theatre and at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa with Giovanna Casolla; Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze and La Bohème at the San Carlo in Naples; Pagliacci at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; La Bohème and Turandot at the Teatro Regio in Parma; Donizetti's Il campanello, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with Rolando Panerai and Juan Pons, Don Carlo and Adriana Leouvreur at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova; Maurizio Scaparro’s staging of Turandot designed by Ezio Frigerio and Madama Butterly for the Puccini Festival; Giancarlo Cobelli’s production of Rigoletto at Teatro Comunale in Bologna, alternating with M° Bruno Bartoletti; Tosca on tour in Italy and for the opening of the Daegu International Opera Festival in South Korea with Francesca Patanè as protagonist and in Nicaragua’s Rubén Darío National Theatre. He had a sensational success with critics and audiences at the Michigan Opera Theater in Detroit with Turandot and La Bohème at the 60th Puccini Festival, with protagonists Daniela Dessi and Fabio Armiliato, directed by Maestro Ettore Scola, was broadcast on RAI and pubblicated in DVD with the 4K system.

Active on the symphonic side, has conducted concerts at the Kecskeméti Tavaszi Festival in Hungary, International House of Music in Moscow, Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, Teatro Pavarotti in Modena, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro del Giglio in Lucca and Teatro Verdi in Pisa, with the Orchestra della Toscana ORT, I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra in Milano, SanMarino Symphony Orchestra and inaugurated the 57th Santander Festival with soloists Eva Mei and Giacomo Prestia.

Recent engagements include some of the less-frequented operatic repertoire such as Fedora and Madama Butterfly (Brescia version 1904) at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Adriana Lecouvreur in Skopje with Daniela Dessì; the Diptych Zanetto in Livorno and Verona (Filarmonico); La Rondine for Fresno Grand Opera and Le Villi in Managua, as well as Madama Butterfly at Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, Modena, Lucca, Livorno, Rovigo and in Stuttgart; the inauguration of the Theater of Zhuhai Huafa (China) with Turandot; a Verdi recital again with Daniela Dessì in Parma with the Toscanini Orchestra; Tosca for the opening of the 61st Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago and in Novara; La Forza del Destino at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa; Cavlleria Rusticana, L'Amico Fritz and Fauré's Requiem in Cagliari; La Fanciulla del West with Opera Lombardia; Rossini's Stabat Mater in Trieste; Gianni Schicchi in Empoli; L'Heure Espagnole and La Bohème (concert version) in Toulon; Attila in Seoul; Tosca in Palermo, Toulon, San Diego, Stuttgart and Berlin and Pagliacci in Trieste.

Plans include: Carmen in Toulon and St. Margatethen; Rigoletto and Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci in Toulon.
