Among the most accomplished conductors of his generation, Valerio Galli
made his debut in 2007 conducting Tosca at the Puccini Festival,
immediately establishing himself in the late romantic and verismo
repertoire. A graduate in piano and composition, he received the 42nd
Puccini Prize and is considered a specialist of the composer of which he
conducted Le Villi, La Bohème, Tosca, Madama
Butterfly (also in the Brescia 1904 version), La Rondine, La
Fanciulla del West, Il Trittico and Turandot.
He has performed in the major Italian theatres such as San Carlo in
Napoli, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio in Parma, Carlo Felice in
Genova, Arena in Verona, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Massimo in Palermo,
Comunale in Bologna, Municipale in Piacenza, Opera Lombardia, Massimo in
Catania and on important international stages including Deutsche Oper in
Berlin, Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (Mascagni's
Rapsodia Satanica), Korea National Opera in Seoul, Detroit Opera,
and San Diego Opera.
Among other titles conducted are: Faust and L’Heure espagnole;
Verdi's titles Attila, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, La
Traviata, Un Ballo in Maschera, Aida, La Forza
del Destino, Don Carlo and many works from the verismo
repertoire: Adriana Lecouvreur, Fedora, Cavalleria
Rusticana, L'Amico Fritz, Zanetto, Si and Pagliacci.
He has recorded La Forza del Destino (CD) for Decca; Cavalleria
Rusticana, Pagliacci, Un Mari à la porte and Il
Trittico for the Dynamic label, on the occasion of productions
conducted at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Fedora (Dynamic,
Teatro Carlo Felice Genova) and La Bohème (RaiCom, Festival
Puccini) with Daniela Dessì, Carmen (ORF) and Tosca
(Dynamic).
Among recent engagements are Il Trovatore and Don Carlos
(French version) in Stuttgart, Tosca in Berlin, Cavalleria
Rusticana/Pagliacci and Rigoletto in Toulon (where he served
as principal conductor), Carmen in St. Margarethen, La Bohème
in Macerata, Nabucco in Sanxay, and Verdi’s Requiem Mass
in Klagenfurt.
Notable engagements for the 2025-26 season include: Manon Lescaut
in Torre del Lago, Falstaff in Hamburg, and Turandot in
Stuttgart.
