Silvia Tro Santafé - Mezzo-Soprano - W Print

The spanish mezzo-soprano, Silvia Tro Santafé, has established a major reputation with audiences and leading opera houses over the world. Her repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the 21st century, but above all she is recognised as one of today’s finest exponents of Rossini and the Bel Canto roles.

Her Rosina and Cenerentola have been heard in Vienna State Opera, Berlin, Zurich, Amsterdam, Washington, Palermo, Bologna and Munich and her Isabella in Italiana in Algeri at the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Real Madrid, Amsterdam and Zurich.  Other roles include Lucilla in La Scala di seta (her debut at the Rossini Opera Festival), Arsace in Semiramide, Malcom in La donna del Lago (recently recorded for Opera Rara), Arsace in Aureliano in Palmira.  Over the last seasons her repertoire has extended to Bellini’s Adalgisa in Norma in Berlin and Brussels, Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Munich State Opera and Isoletta in La Straniera in Moscow.  Her Donizetti repertoire includes Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia, Sara in Roberto Devereux, Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena and Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda (recently performed at the Liceu in Barcelona). 

She has recorded and performed many of the greatest roles of baroque repertoire including the title roles of Xerxes (Champs Elysées- Paris), Rinaldo (Berlin State Opera), Ariodante (Barcelona) and as Polinesso (Salzburg Festival, Paris Opera), Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare (Netherlands Opera). 

Past engagements include: Verdi’s Requiem in Hamburg; Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Liverpool, Toledo and Madrid; I Capuleti e Montecchi (Romeo) at Teatro Liceu in Barcelona; Roberto Devereux (Sara) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, at the Bayerische Staatsoper in München, in Valencia and in Bilbao; Lucio Silla (Cecilio) in Madrid; Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia at Bayerische Staatsoper in München; Arsace in Semiramide at the Opera in Florence (Bruno Campanella conducting); Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda (concert version) at the Operà de Marseille and in a stage version at the Carlo Felice in Genoa; Lisinga in Gluck’s Le Cinesi in Valencia (Fabio Biondi conducting); Charlotte in Werther in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Most recently she was Adalgisa in Norma in Bilbao and Marguerite in La damnation de Faust in Valencia (Roberto Abbado conducting and Damiano Michieletto directing) and she add important roles to her repertoire: Laura Adorno in La Gioconda in Brussels; the title role of Zelmira in Washington Dc; Principessa d’Eboli in Don Carlo in Madrid, she also starred as Sara in Roberto Devereux in Munich

She collaborated with conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Gerd Albrecht, Walter Weller, Yehudi Menuhin, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Charles Dutoit, Ros Marvá, Jesús López Cobos, García Navarro, Julian Reynolds, Tamás Vásáry, Michel Plasson, Gómez Martínez, Maurizio Benini, Lorin Maazel, Harry Bicket and Christophe Rousset.

Future plans include: Adriana Lecouvreur in Las Palmas; Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena in Bilbao; Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia in Oviedo; Lucrezi Borgia, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux in Valencia; and Fenena in Nabucco and Maria Stuarda in Madrid.
