Silvia Paoli is an Italian director and actress born in Florence. After attending modern literature at the University, she graduated at the Academy of dramatic art “Paolo Grassi” in Milan.>
Silvia specialized under the guidance of Bruno De Franceschi, Maria Consagra, Raffaella Giordano, Anton Milienin, Danio Manfredini, Odin Theatre. At the beginning of her career she started collaborating as an actress with Peter Stein and with directors as Paolo Rossi, Damiano Michieletto, M. Schmidt, S.Barbarino, F. Brandi, A. Milenin, I. Konyaev in various Italian and international productions. Silvia also collaborated with musicians such as Gioa Feidman and Micrologus.>
In 2007 she wrote and successfully interpreted Livia, while in 2013 she wrote the comic monologue Bucce; in her works is constantly present the musical accompaniment by Francesco Canavese, with whom she carries on the project Mu.Te, project that also includes Emiliano Nigi, musician and Andrea Macaluso, actor. In 2013 Silvia Paoli was awarded with the “Sorelle Gramatica” prize as emerging talent and she also received two nomination as best comic actress at the Ubu award.
Silvia Paoli started working in the opera field as assistant director for Damiano Michieletto in various productions at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, at the Zurich Opernhaus and in the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
Silvia Paoli made her debut as opera director with La Cenerentola in Tenerife, returning to Opera de Tenerife with new productions of Le Nozze di Figaro (2015) and I Capuleti e Montecchi (2017), with both the productions later revived at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2016 and 2018 . In 2016 she directed Puccini’s Turandot for the AsLiCo circuit in Italy and Offenbach’s Vent du soir at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. She then directed Otello at the Teatro Sociale in Como and Donizetti’s Enrico di Borgogna at the Festival Donizetti in Bergamo.
In recent seasons, she staged Lucrezia Borgia in the theatres of Tenerife, Oviedo and Bologna, Carmen at Teatro Regio in Parma, created a new production of La casa de Bernarda Alba and supervised the revival of her production of I Capuleti e i Montecchi.
Her staging of L'Empio Punito at the Innsbruck Festival earned her the German Critics' Prize as the revelation of the year and a re-invitation to direct Bononcini's Astarto, with great appreciation of both public and critics.
In 2022, she had a big success with her debut in France, staging Tosca at the Opera National de Lorraine in Nancy, a production that was revived at the Opera de Toulon and will be revived as well in Nantes, Angers, Rennes and Limoges.
Recent and future plans include: a new production of Iphigenie en Tauride in Nancy and Bern, Il Turco in Italia at the Festival della Val d’Itria in Martina Franca.
