Salvatore Salvaggio graduated with “magna cum laude” from the Conservatory “V. Bellini” in Caltanissetta, under the guidance of Silvana Alessio Martinelli. He then specialized with Bruno de Simone, Raina Infantino, Paolo Washington, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Renato Bruson and Luis Alva. He attended various masterclasses such as the “International Opera Academy” with Katia Ricciarelli and the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro, under M°Alberto Zedda.

Winner of several international opera competitions, such as the “Toti dal Monte” in Treviso; “Francesco Cilea” in Reggio Calabria and the International Opera Competition “Rocca delle Macie” in Siena.

He took part in several concerts and performances in Italy, Belgium, England, Greece, Canada and Germany. He made his debut at the age of 20 in the role of Gaspare in Donizetti’s Rita, Giovanni Folli directing and conducted by Fabio Pironi. Following other debuts in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims (Emilio Sagi/ Peter Rizzo) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, role he has already sang with the direction of Rosetta Cucchi direction and under the baton of Darrel Ang with the Fondazione A. Toscanini in Parma and at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza and under Aldo Sisillo at the Lugo Opera Festival.; Geronimo in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto, Italo Nunziata directing, Michael Guttler conducting, at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice; Don Magnifico in Rossini’s La Cenerentola under Alessandro Pinzauti and direction by Simona Marchini at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, Teatro del Giglio in Lucca and Teatro Goldoni in Livorno; Sagrestano in Puccini’s Tosca at the Auditorium in Rimini and Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore at the Teatro Zappala in Palermo.

At the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino he sang as Don Annibale Pistacchio in Bell’s Donizetti (Jean Louis Grinda/ Fabrizio M. Carminati); Don Bartolo in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (Damiano Michieletto/ Alessandro d’Agostino); Uberto in Pergolesi’s La serva padrona (C. Carreres/ Massimiliano Caldi) and Nonancourt in Rota’s Il Cappello di paglia di Firenze under Sergio Alapont and in then A. Battistoni conducting and A. Cigni directing.

Other past engagements include: the title role of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in Agrigento; Don Abbondio in the musical I promessi sposi by Michele Guardì and Pippo Flora (Italian tour 2011-2012); Geronimo in Il matrimonio segreto and Bartolo in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama (Japan). In Russia (Hermitage. St. Petersburg) he sang the role of Plutone in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. He also took part in the concert “Verdi & Friends” at the Tsuda Hall in Tokyo; Apollo in Handel’s Apollo in Dafne at the “Myth Opera Festival” in Agrigento (September 2013). He again interpreted Nonancourt in Il Cappello di paglia di Firenze at the Wexford Opera Festival under Sergio Alapont, direction by A. Cigni; again Geronimo in Il Matrimonio Segreto at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca and Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna.

Most recently he was Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi under Sergio Alapont in Chiusi; Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Festival Mozartiano in Danzica; Schaunard in La Boheme in Messina; Don Pasquale in Taranto and Matera and Da Capua’s La zingara in Agrigento, Alcindoro in La Boheme at the Opera in Florence and Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola in Pamplona.

He is the artistic director of the Teatro Regina Margherita in Racalmuto and he founded the “Myth Opera Festival” in the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento.
