Montanari directing, Riccardo in Un ballo in Maschera in Tel Aviv with
Zubin Mehta, Verdi’s Requiem in Amsterdam with Marc Albrecht, Puccini’s
Messa di Gloria at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Paolo
Arrivabeni conducting.
Plans include: Don
Giovanni and a new production of I Capuleti e i Montecchi (under
Marco Armiliato) at the Wiener Staatsoper; La Clemenza di Tito and Lucia
di Lammermoor in Toulouse; La Traviata at the Royal Opera House in
London and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin; Falstaff in Chicago with
Riccardo Muti; a new production of Madama Butterfly in Zurich; La
Bohème and Macbeth at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; a revival
of King Roger in Sydney. On the concert side, Mr. Pirgu will sing again
Verdi’s Requiem in Paris (under Gianandrea Noseda) and Luxembourg,
Berlioz’ Requiem in Vienna (under Tugan Sokhiev), a series of concerts in
Tokyo, and a gala concert at the Chorégies d’ Orange.

Nicolas Joel - director
Nicolas Joel has been Director of the Opéra National de Paris from 2009 to 2014.
He was Assistant Director at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg from 1973
until 1978, then at the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals as well as the San
Francisco Opera.
He has been Artistic Director at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse.
His vast activity includes successful collaborations with the world's most
prestigious opera houses: Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House in London, Wiener
Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Royal Theatre of Copenhagen, Teatro Real de
Madrid, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, De
Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and Stora Teatern in Gothenburg, Opernhaus
Zürich, Theater und Philarmonie in Essen, Theater Bremen, Théâtre Municipal de
Lausanne, Opera in Nancy, Opéra in Montpellier, Opéra de Nice, Opéra du Rhin and
Opéra de Lyon. M° Joel directed Un Ballo in Maschera with Luciano
Pavarotti, Debussy's La Demoiselle Elue and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with
Jessye Norman at the Opéra de Paris.
He signed several prestigious productions at the the Théâtre du Capitole in
Toulouse: Boris Godounov , Die Walküre, Hamlet , Das Rheingold and Mignon,
Roméo et Juliette and Werther , Siegfried, Götterdämmerung , Les
Contes d'Hoffmann , Charpentier's Louise.
Mr.
Joel's recent engagements include: La Rondine at the Royal Opera House in
London, then at the San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York; Roméo
et Juliette and Otello at the Chorégies d’Orange; Les Contes
d'Hoffmann at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Regio in Turin and Chicago; Falstaff at
the Arena di Verona; La Forza del Destino at the Teatro Carlo Felice in
Genoa; Rigoletto with the Japan Opera Foundation; I Vespri Siciliani at
the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, then toured in Japan and in Naples; and La
Forza del Destino at the Teatro Comunale in Florence then on tour in Japan.
Plans include Werther at the New National Theatre in Tokyo.
