Rotem Nir is an Israeli conductor, born in 1998. He currently serves as
the Conductor in residence of the Israeli Opera and the Israel Symphony
Orchestra. There he regularly conducts opera performances, symphonic
concerts and assisting the institutions’s music director Dan Ettinger.
Rotem frequently appears as a guest conductor with the renowned Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra. In June 2024, he stepped in on short notice to
replace Christoph Eschenbach for a series of symphonic concerts. Other
orchestras he has worked with include the Haifa Symphony Orchestra,
Ra'anana Symphonette Orchestra, Israel Camerata Jerusalem, and Ensemble
21.
Internationally, Rotem has served as an Assistant Conductor at notable
institutions and festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Teatro San Carlo
in Naples, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2023, he made his
debut in Germany, conducting a staged production of Handel's oratorio Il
trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno with the Georgian Chamber
Orchestra Ingolstadt.
In the summer of 2022, he participated in the Conducting Fellowship of
the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, and worked with the festival’s
orchestras and renowned conductors such as Gábor Takács-Nagy and Lahav
Shani.
Recent engagements include Ariadne auf Naxos and Turandot
at the Israeli Opera.
Future engagements include symphonic concerts at the Teatro Petruzzelli
in Bari and at the Maggio Musicale in Florence; Evgenij Onegin, Die
Zauberflöte, Salome and Tosca at the Israeli Opera;
as well as symphonic concerts with the Israel Symphony
Orchestra, the Ra'anana Symphonette Orchestra and the Georgisches
Kammerorchester Ingolstadt.
Rotem is a Bassoon player, having served as Associate Principal Bassoon
with the Israeli Opera Orchestra from 2019 to 2022.
