Renato Dolcini - Baritone - W Print

Born in Milan in 1985, he pursued vocal training under M° Vincenzo Manno while studying Musicology at Pavia University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He was admitted twice to the Gstaad Vocal Academy (2009, 2010) where he had the opportunity to specialize with Cecilia Bartoli.

In 2015 he is chosen by William Christie as one of the six young talents selected all over the world that will participate to the seventh edition of “Le Jardin des Voix”: in the following international tour with Les Arts Florissants in Europe, USA, Russia, Australia, Korea, China and Japan, he drew the attention of the critics and got some enthusiastic reviews ("Renato Dolcini played the mad scene of Orlando to the hilt and would surely have chewed the scenery, had there been any" - The New York Times).

Highlights of the past seasons were Caldara's Dafne in Venezia for Teatro La Venice under Stefano Montanari, an all-Monteverdi program conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner for Monteverdi Tuscany Festival, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro with René Jacobs for the Fondation de Royaumont; Alidoro in Rossini's La Cenerentola with Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante; his debut as Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni in Milan and Florence (recorded for Warner Classics); Rossi’s L’Orfeo (Satiro) with Raphaël Pichon at the Opéra de Versailles and Opéra de Bordeaux; Cavalli’s Ipermestra (Danao) at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival with William Christie and Graham Vick; L’incoronazione di Poppea (Ottone) at the Opéra de Nantes in a new production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier; Aneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants on tour; Messiah in Milan (LaVerdi Barocca); Bach's Weinachstoratorium in Milan with La Risonanza and Fabio Bonnizzoni; Landi's La morte di Orfeo at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam with Christoph Rousset; Petite Messe Solennelle in Malta; Melani’s L’Europa at the Potsdam Musikfestspiele; his debut in Seneca in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at the Salzburger Festespiele under William Christie; Porpora’s Iole in Oldenburg (Musikfest Bremen) with Concerto de’ Cavalieri; Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in Perigueux with Alexis Kossenko and Les Ambassadeurs; Bach's Johannes-Passion in Paris and in an European tour with Les Arts Florissants and in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw). BBC has cast Mr. Dolcini for the radio program Arts Hour on tour in Milan, singing arias by Porpora and Mozart.

Upcoming engagements include, among others: revivals of Dido and Aeneas with Christie at the Liceu in Barelona, on tour in France and in New York and Platée at the Zurich Opernhaus.

Mr. Dolcini stars as Orfeo and Apollo in “Stravaganza d’Amore!”, Raphaël Pichon and Ensemble Pygmalion’s latest disc for Harmonia Mundi, which has been acclaimed with Diapason d’Or and Choc de Classica among other prizes.
