Ragaa Eldin, born in Cairo, completed his musical studies at the
conservatory in his hometown. In 2007 he participated in soprano Caroline
Dumas’ masterclass in Paris, followed by several concerts. In 2008 he
became a member of Cairo Opera ensemble, where he debuted Nemorino (L’elisir
d’amore) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), among other roles. In
2010 he was a semifinalist at the “Wilhelm Stenhammar” International
Singing Competition in Sweden and from 2008 to 2013 he took part in the
“Egyptian-Finnish Musical Bridge”. During that time, he was invited to
attend Tom Krause and Eija Tolbo’s masterclasses at the Savonlinna Music
Academy.
In 2014 he graduated from the École Normale de Musique in Paris. In 2015
he received a scholarship at the Scuola dell’Opera in Bologna and was
finalist in the Spazio Musica International Competition for Opera Singers,
where he won the audience prize and the prizes of the Teatro Comunale of
Bologna and of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. From 2015 to
2017 he continued his studies at the École Normale de Musique and in 2017
he won the first prize at the International Space Music Singing
Competition. He attended master classes with Rolando Villazón and was a
member of the “Puccini-Torre del Lago” Music Academy, where he received
the “Best Tenor” award in 2018.
Under the direction of his teacher Gabriella Ravazzi and conductor
Maurizio Arena he continued his training from 2014 to 2017, then
performing at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, where he sang Manrico in Il
Trovatore, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Turiddu in Cavalleria
Rusticana, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Alfredo in La traviata.
In the concert repertoire, Ragaa Eldin sang Dvorak’s Stabat mater
and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and also appeared as a guest at the
“Dinard Music Festival” in Brittany, at the “Saint Foy Music Festival” in
Bordeaux, and sang together with Juan Diego Flórez in the final concert of
the “Maria Biesu” festival in Chisinau. He also sang in concerts in Cairo,
Amman, Oman, Algeria, Finland, France, Italy and Spain.
In 2017 he appeared in Verdi’s Jérusalem in the Verdi Festival at
the Teatro Regio in Parma and he was Manrico in Il Trovatore at
the Kazan Fjodor-Schaljapin Opera Festival. In 2018 he performed Don José
in Bizet’s Carmen in Almaty and Chisinau (Moldova). In Brescia he
sang in Giancarlo Facchinetti’s new opera Musical Journey to Hell.
He was Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Carlo Felice of
Genoa and in Samara (Russia). He made his debut as Loris Ipanoff in Fedora
at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania under Daniel Oren.
Recent engagements include: Turandot (Calaf) and Madama
Butterfly at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; La Bohème at the
Kazan Opera and in Podgorica; Rigoletto in Orvieto; a Puccini Gala
at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; Madama Butterfly in
Cagliari; Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo) in Clermont Ferrrand; Ernani
in Cagliari; Tosca in Novara; Carmen in Kiel, Bytom, Mainz
and Macerata; a new production of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta in Kiel
and Rigoletto in Varsavia.
Future engagements include: Carmen (Don José) at the Maria Bieshu
International Opera and Ballet Festival in Chisinau.
