Matteo Macchioni was born in Sassuolo and began studying music as a
child. In 2007, he obtained an academic diploma in piano, while at the
same time cultivating his study and passion for opera singing. In 2010, he
made his debut at the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Salerno in the role of
Nemorino in L'Elisir d'amore conducted by Daniel Oren.
Under the guidance of Natale de Carolis, he made his debut at the
"Luglio Musicale Trapanese" Festival in the role of Ernesto in Don
Pasquale and later the role of Conte di Almaviva in Il Barbiere
di Siviglia at the Stresa Festival; Goro in Madama Butterfly,
Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Carlo Felice di
Genova and again Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia under Filippo
Crivelli. He took part in the production of Il Viaggio a Reims at
the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro as Cavalier Belfiore, after
successfully participating in the Accademia Rossiniana presided over by
Maestro Alberto Zedda.
This was followed by productions of: Il Barbiere di Siviglia at
the Teatro Verdi in Padua and at the Teatro di León (Mexico); Adriana
Lecouvreur (Abate di Chazeuil) on tour with the Circuito Lirico
Lombardo and in Sassari; Britten's Billy Budd conducted by Andrea
Battistoni and directed by Davide Livermore at the Teatro Carlo Felice in
Genoa; Don Giovanni at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza; Pagliacci
(Arlecchino) at the Festival "Como Città della Musica"; La gazza
ladra (Isacco) conducted by Donato Renzetti and directed by Damiano
Michieletto at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro
In past seasons, noteworthy engagements include: Le Nozze di Figaro
conducted by Stefano Montanari under the direction of Mario Martone/ Di
Florio in the Circuito Lombardo and later at the Teatro Regio in Parma and
at the Valli in Reggio Emilia; La Cenerentola at the Leipzig Opera
House and at the Maggio Musicale in Florence; Olivo e Pasquale at
the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo.
In 2017 he made his debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in Rossini's La
gazza ladra conducted by Riccardo Chailly and directed by Gabriele
Salvatores, and later in Mosè in Egitto at the Bregenzer
Festspiele. He was again Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at
the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo and at the Royal Danish Opera House in
Copenhagen and took part in the production of Adina in Pesaro. He
made his debut at the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff in La
Cenerentola and in L'Occasione fa il ladro Tiroler
Festspiele in Erl.
More recently, he returned to the Carlo Felice in Genoa with Don
Pasquale; he soon took part in the production of Don Giovanni
at the Theater Freiburg and in Diano Marina; Guillaume Tell
(Ruodi) in Erl and Così fan tutte at the Royal Danish Opera House
in Copenhagen; Rossini's Stabat Mater and Il Barbiere di
Siviglia in Trieste; Gianni Schicchi in Empoli and Matera; Don
Pasquale in Rovigo and Le Nozze di Figaro and Die
Zauberfloete at the Filarmonico in Verona; Il Paese dei
Campanelli in Martina Franca and Novara; La Cenerentola at
the Olympia Thater in Athens; I Puritani in Modena; Turandot
(Pong) at the Arena di Verona and L'Equivoco stravagante in
Pesaro.
Upcoming engagements include: Tosca (Spoletta) at the Accademia
di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Daniel Harding conducting and Deutsche
Grammophon recording, and La Cenerentola in Klagenfurt.
