Julija Vasiljeva graduated from the Jāzeps Vītolas Latvian Academy of
Music with Anita Garanča and obtained her master's degree with Lilija
Greidāne. She made her opera debut in a production of Mozart's Le
nozze di Figaro at the JVLAM and attended masterclasses with Edda
Moser, Renato Bruson, Inga Kalna, Axel Everaert, Margarita Gruzdeva and
Māris Skuja.
Since 2013, Julija Vasiljeva has been a permanent soloist at the Latvian
National Opera in Riga, where she has performed roles such as Violetta (La
Traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto), Susanna (Le nozze di
Figaro), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Liù (Turandot),
Marguerite (Gounod's Faust), Norina (Don Pasquale).
In 2022, she was named “Vocal Soloist of the Year” at the Great Music
Awards. In the same year, she sang the title role in Verdi's Luisa
Miller in concert form and in two new productions she sang Donna
Anna (Don Giovanni) and Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow).
Starting with the 2022/2023 season, Julija Vasiljeva moved to the
lyric-spinto soprano register and made her successful debut in the roles
of Abigaille (Nabucco) and the title role in Adriana
Lecouvreur. The following season, she appeared on the stage of the
Latvian National Opera as Elisabetta (Don Carlo) and Adriana
Lecouvreur in two new productions, as well as in revivals of Turandot
(Liù), Nabucco and Jenůfa (Karolka).
In 2024, she made her debut in the title role in Puccini's Turandot
at the Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto, then singing it again in a triumphant
new production at the Staatstheater in Mainz in the 2024/2025 season.
Among her engagements for the 2025-26 season are: Turandot
(title role) in Nuremberg and Mainz; Nabucco in Nuremberg; Aida
(role debut) in Zagreb; Adriana Lecouvreur in Riga.
