Praised for her “sonorous, colorful” and “crystalline” voice, soprano
Julia Muzychenko is a rising star on the world opera and concert stages.
In the 2024-2025 season, she returns to the role of Violetta in La
traviata in her debut with Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino,
and also she returns to the role of Violetta with Avignon Grand Opera,
Opéra national du Rhin and Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santodomingo in
Bogotá, Colombia, she sings Gilda in Rigoletto with Ludic Tezier
and Luca Salsi
in her debut with Tiroler Festspiele Erl and sings Lauretta in Gianni
Schicchi with Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. On concert stage, Ms
Muzychenko appears with pianist Helmut Deutsch at Konzerthaus Wien.
Last season, she sang Gilda in Rigoletto in her debut with
Deutsche Oper Berlin, sang Musetta in a return to Opéra national de
Montpellier, reprised Oxana in Rimksy-Korsakov’s Christmas Eve
with Oper Frankfurt, and returned to the role of Violetta in La
traviata with both Nuits Lyriques de Marmande and Teatro Mayor
Julio Mario Santodomingo in Bogotá, Columbia.
On the concert stage, Ms. Muzychenko appeared with the Stuttgart
Philharmonic, the Belgian National Orchestra, joined her husband baritone
Tobias Greenhalgh in concert at Konzerthaus Berlin, and made a concert
tour of Korea. In the 2022-2023 season, she made her debut as the Swan
Princess in The Tale of Tsar Saltan with Opéra national du Rhin,
sang Violetta in La traviata with Teatro Comunale di Bologna,
Oxana in Christmas Eve with Oper Frankfurt, Amina in La
sonnambula with Opéra-Théâtre de Clermont-Ferrand, and Norina in Don
Pasquale with Teatro Zandonai.
Ms. Muzychenko’s other recent performances include: Gilda in Rigoletto
and Nanetta in Falstaff (Opéra national de Montpellier); the
title role in Lakme (Marmande Festival); Oksana in Christmas
Eve (Oper Frankfurt), which was recorded and distributed on DVD by
Naxos, and was awarded Production of the Year by the International Opera
Awards; Amina in La sonnambula (Opera Vichy, Opera Limoges,
Clermont Ferrand Opera, Opera d’Avignon, Opera-Theatre de Metz Metropole,
and Opera de Reims); Violetta in La Traviata (Verdi Festival in
Bussetto, Teatro Comunale Bolzano, and Opera de Tenerife); Norina in Don
Pasquale (Opera national de Montepellier); and Rosalinde in Die
Fledermaus (Hermitage Theater Saint Petersburg). As a member of the
Junges Ensemble at Dresden Semperoper, her roles included Musetta La
bohème, Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Sandmännchen/ Taumännchen in
Hänsel und Gretel, and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte.
On the concert stage, she recently joined the Prague Orchestra at the
Cartagena Festival in Colombia, a concert with the Stuttgarter
Philharmoniker at the Heidenheim Festival, and a gala concert celebrating
Eva Marton’s birthday at the National Hungarian Opera. She sang a solo
recital at Shostakovich Hall in Saint Petersburg, and was a featured
soloist on the Advent Konzert in Dresden’s Frauenkirche (which was
televised on ZDF). Ms. Muzychenko was also selected to be a soloist at the
famed Semper Opernball 2020.
Ms. Muzychenko is the recent 3rd Place Winner of The Queen Elisabeth
Competition in Brussels, 5th Prize Winner of Tenor Viñas Competition in
Barcelona, Grand Prize Winner of the Clermont Ferrand International Opera
Competition, 2nd Prize Winner of the Monserrat Caballe Competition, 2nd
Prize Salici d’Oro in Vienna, 2nd Prize Winner of the Marmande Opera
Competition, and the 2nd Prize Winner and a Role Prize Winner from the
International Virgilijus Noreika Competition for Singers in Lithuania. She
also a award recipient from the ‘Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ Competition
(1st place and audience prize), 55’Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane
città di Bussetto (prize winer), International Competition ‘Opera de
Tenerife’ (1st place and audience prize), Crescendo International Music
Competition in Carnegie Hall (1st place), Sergei Rachmaninov International
Vocal Competition (1st place), Zinka Milanov Competition (2nd place and
audience prize), Eva Marton Competition (3rd place), Competizione
dell’Opera (3rd place and audience prize), Prize Winer 70’Concorso ASLIKO
per Giovani cantanti Lirici D’EUROPA.
Ms. Muzychenko was a member of the Bolshoi Theater’s Young Artist
Program, and Houston Grand Opera’s Vocal Academy. She earned her Masters
Degree in Vocal Performance from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and
Berlin Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.
