Jennifer Rowley is acclaimed worldwide for her unforgettable voice and
remarkable stage presence, singing a richly varied repertoire that
includes opera's greatest heroines.
She is a highly decorated soprano awarded by many international
competitions: the 2012 Richard Tucker Career Grant; the 2011 and 2013
Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Competition; the 2011 Opera Index Vocal
Competition; the 2011 William Mattheus Sullivan Musical Foundation awards;
the 2011 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition; the
2010 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Michigan
District.
Significant milestones in the past seasons include: Simon Boccanegra
(Amelia) at Opera Philadelphia and at Opernhaus Zürich; Madama
Butterfly (Cio-Cio San) for Palm Beach Opera and at the Teatro Carlo
Felice in Genoa under maestro Fabio Luisi's baton; La Fanciulla del
West (Minnie) at the Teatro Regio in Turin; Il Trovatore (Leonora)
at the Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden, Opéra de Rouen, Opera de Paris,
Metropolitan Opera and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Les Huguenots (Valentine)
at the Semperoper Dresden; Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Verdi in
Salerno; Lehár's The Merry Widow (Hannah Glawari) at Palm Beach
Opera; Tosca at the Opéra de Marseille, the Staatsoper Berlin
Unter den Linden and the Metropolitan Opera in New York; Un Ballo in
Maschera (Amelia) at the National Theatre Prague; Aida at
the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and Alfano’s Cyrano de
Bergerac (Roxane) and Adriana Lecouvreur at the the
Metropolitan Opera.
On the concert side, she sung: concert performances of Tosca with
the Israel Philharmonic led by maestro Zubin Mehta; Verdi's Messa da
Requiem with the Richmond Symphony and Beethoven's colossal Missa
Solemnis with the Philadelphia Orchestra both in Philadelphia at
the Kimmel Center, and in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, conducted by
Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In addition, she performed at the Bayerische
Staatsoper in a recital with pianist James Vaughn; at the Shanghai
International Arts Festival, Weifang Concert Hall in Shandong, and the
Coex Center in Seoul; at the Aspendos Ruins and Theatre in Aspendos,
Turkey; at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège in Belgium, the Royal Opéra
Versailles and the Opéra de Tours in France; and on the steps of the
Lincoln Memorial in Washington.
Jennifer Rowley is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of
opera artists, carrying forward the legacy of her own mentor, Martina
Arroyo. In 2022, she launched Jennifer Rowley's Aria Bootcamp in Sarasota,
FL, which evolved into a fully-fledged young artist training program and
non-profit by 2023. Her dedication to nurturing talent extends to regular
artist residencies with young artist programs and an annual residency at
her alma mater, Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music. She is
also a recommended judge for the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
Recent and future engagements of the 2024/25 season include: a reprisal
of La Fanciulla del West at Beijing's National Center for the
Performing Arts, under the direction of Thaddeus Strassberger and maestro
Carlo Rizzi; her return to Opernhaus Zurich in Andreas Homoki's production
of Simon Boccanegra; Tosca with conductor Valentina
Peleggi and the Richmond Symphony and at the Teatro
Petruzzelli in Bari under Francesco Cilluffo; Perosi's Il
giudizio universale at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari with conductor
Maurizio Benini; Verdi's Aida at the Teatro Colón in Buenos
Aires; as well as her debut in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at Santa
Fe’s Lensik Center.
Jennifer Rowley holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University’s
Jacobs School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin Wallace
University Conservatory of Music. She holds a Certificate of Performance
Achievement from the Instituto Superior del Arte of the Teatro Colón and
was a Max Kade Scholar at Middlebury College’s German for Singers Program.
Ms. Rowley serves as an advisory board member for Classical Singer
Magazine.
