Graduated with a degree in piano, he then devoted
himself to the study of opera singing adn won several competitions,
including the Zandonai in Rovereto.
After his debut in
Rome in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, he sang Madama Butterfly and
Nabucco in the theatres of the Circuito Lirico Lombardo conducted
by Luisotti; Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Comunale di Treviso
conducted by Maag and Cilea's Gina at the Teatro dell'Opera di
Roma (Bongiovanni) conducted by Franklin.
In 2008 he won over
the public and critics in the character of the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto
at the Arena di Verona (under the baton of Palumbo), in the same
role he was invited to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and made his debut
at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and at the Los Angeles Opera
(conducted by Conlon).
In his early career he
was Rodolfo in La Bohème in Florence, Bologna, Palermo, Turin,
Frankfurt, Torre del Lago and Shanghai. He played Edgardo in Lucia
di Lammermoor (Florence, Frankfurt, Avenches, Turin and Venice),
Alfredo in La Traviata (Verona, Venice and Naples) and Tonio in
La Figlia del Reggimento (Trieste and in the Circuito Lombardo).
He later debuted the title role in Roberto Devereux at the
Teatro dell'Opera in Rome with great success. He then sang Rigoletto
at the Regio in Turin, La Bohème, La Traviata, Rigoletto and Lucia
di Lammermoor at the Fenice in Venice.
In past seasons he
sang Rigoletto in Tenerife, at the Arena di Verona conducted by
Frizza, at the Opera Australia by Palumbo and at the Opera di Roma;
debuted the role of Arturo Talbo in I Puritani at the Circuito
Lombardo; La Damnation de Faust in Palermo under the baton of
Abbado and directed by Gilliam; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor
at the San Carlo in Naples under the direction of Amelio; La Bohéme
at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; La Traviata in Leipzig,
Warsaw; his debut as Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at the
Regio di Torino conducted by Noseda; Verdi's Messa da Requiem and
Un ballo in maschera in Trieste conducted by Gelmetti.
His participation in La
Traviata staged as part of the first international event 'Opera
on Sydney Harbour', organised by Opera Australia, was particularly
important. For his performance in the role of Alfredo, he was nominated
for the 'Helpmann award' as best male artist.
It is also worth mentioning his participation as the lead
actor in 'Caruso, La voce dell'amore', a successful RAI film that made
Terranova one of the tenors most loved by international audiences.
