Born in Verona, graduated from the Conservatory of Brescia, Gianfranco Montresor made his debut in 1993 at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in Paolo Arcà's
Gattabianca
followed by
Carmen
(Escamillo) at the San Severo Festival and
La Bohème
(Marcello) at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
His brilliant and rapid career soon took him to the stage of numerous theatres including the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Wexford Festival Opera, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Teatro de São Carlos in Lisbon, Macerata Opera Festival, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and Teatro delle Muse in Ancona.
In the course of his career, he has had the opportunity to work with conductors such as Antonello Allemandi, Bruno Bartoletti, Yoram David, Jacques Delacôte, Renato Palumbo, Stefano Ranzani, Donato Renzetti, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, John Elliot Gardiner, Daniel Oren, Marco Armiliato, Daniel Barenboim, Pinchas Steinberg, and with directors such as Yuri Alexandrov, Hugo de Ana and Giuseppe Patroni Griffi.

The collaboration with Teatro alla Scala began in 2007 with Fabio Vacchi's new opera
