George Petrou - Conductor
Born in Greece, he enjoys a successful career both as conductor and as pianist. His repertoire ranges from classical to the romantic period, with particular interest in the Baroque repertoire: the recording of Handel’s Tamerlano with MDG has received the prestigious Echo Klassik Award for "Best Album of the Year 2008". He collaborates with such orchestras as the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestre National du Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and the Tchaikovsky Radio Orchestra in Moscow. He recently founded the period Instruments ensemble, Armonia Atenea, with whom he will appear throughout Europe's most prestigious venues with a new production of Handel's Alessandro. This opera, in a studio recording, is going to be soon released by Decca.
