Federico Grazzini

Born in Florence in 1982, he started studying drama first as an actor and later as a director making his debut in Teatro Puccini in Florence with La casa di Asterione by J.L.Borges in 2004. After specialising in text analysis at Shukinskaja Drama Academy in Moskow, he graduated in 2008 at the Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan, directing Expoi, first performed at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
Since 2007 he directed in many theatre and opera productions in Italy and Europe, such as Carmina Burana by C.Orff at Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, Hansel and Gretel by E.Humperdinck and Rigoletto by G.Verdi at Teatro Sociale di Como.
Federico Grazzini is involved in the educational project for kids in Operadomani, Operait and OperaKids: the performance Nabucco by G.Verdi which debuted in January 2011 at Teatro Sociale di Como and in the French version in December 2012 at Opèra Royal de Wallonie in Liege, Belgium. He directed Gianni di Parigi by G.Donizetti at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca and in September 2011 the production has been presented once more at Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland. In 2013 he directed The Little Sweep by B. Britten at Teatro Regio di Torino and Der Fliegende Holländer by R. Wagner at Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona. In 2014 he creates Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo and Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini at Teatro Regio di Parma.
Mr Grazzini has worked in some of the most important opera houses in Italy including Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Fraschini di Pavia, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona and Teatro Regio di Parma.
Awards and Recognition: 2014 Semifinalist at Ring Award International Opera Prize in Graz (2014); Finalist at European Opera Prize - Camerata Nuova - Opera Europa (2013); 2nd Classified Wagner200 International Contest - Special Mention of the jury (2012); 2nd Classified at International Opera Directing Contest Teatro Regio di Torino (2011).
Plans include: Rigoletto at the Macerata Opera Festival (2015); Pagliacci and Gianni Schicchi at the Opera de Nice (2016).
