Praised for her “pearly voice, very beautiful and delivered with great
intelligence and technical skill, ethereal pianissimi, dazzling high
notes, and a deeply personal interpretation” (Operalibera), Federica
Vitali is an Italian soprano recognized for her vocal beauty, dramatic
presence, and artistic versatility.
She perfected her technique with Davide Rocca, Alberto Gazale, Elena
LoForte, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Montserrat Caballé, Renata Scotto, Giovanna
Casolla. In 2016 she was selected for the High Specialization Course for
Verdian Voices at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. She is currently
studying under the guidance of soprano Elisabetta Battaglia.
She has won awards and recognition in numerous international
competitions, including: the prize for youngest talent at the “Spiros
Argiris” Competition, second prize at the “Giulio Neri” Competition, third
prize at the “Maria Kraja” Competition, third prize and critics’ prize at
the “Città di Grandate” Competition, critics’ prize and debut in the role
of Violetta in La Traviata at the “Voce All’Opera” Competition, and the
debut in the role of Amalia in I Masnadieri at the “Voci Verdiane”
Competition.
2015 marks her first major debuts as a leading soprano. She made her
debut as Mimì in La Bohème at the Teatro Municipale di Casale
Monferrato directed by A. Paloscia, followed by her debut as Violetta in La
Traviata at the Teatro Filodrammatici in Milan directed by G.
Aliverta. She was the first interpreter of the role of Malvy in the world
premiere of Una DiVino Commedia by Academy Award winner Luis
Bacalov at the Auditorium Verdi in Milan conducted by the composer
himself.
In the following years she debuted the role of Musetta in La Bohème
at the Teatro Sociale di Como directed by R. Catalano, a role she recently
reprised at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste conducted by C. Franklin; she
debuted the role of Amalia in I Masnadieri at the Teatro Verdi in
Busseto for the Verdi Festival in Parma directed by L. Muscato and
conducted by S. Krecic; she debuted the role of Cio-Cio San in Madama
Butterfly at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa under the baton of A.
Casellati, a role she also performed at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste
directed by A. Triola, first conducted by N. Bareza and later by F. I.
Ciampa; she took part in Mariella Devia’s concert for the Donizetti
Festival at the Teatro Sociale in Bergamo conducted by G. Sabbatini; she
debuted the role of Antonia in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Teatro
San Carlo in Naples directed by Jean-Luis Grinda and conducted by P.
Steinberg; she debuted Micaela in Carmen at the Teatro del Maggio
Musicale Fiorentino directed by L. Muscato and conducted by S. Quatrini, a
role she also sang for the Teatro Comunale di Sassari conducted by J.
Brusa; she debuted in Verdi’s Requiem at the Basilica of Santa
Maria in Aracoeli in Rome and at the Basilica of San Silvestro in L’Aquila
conducted by J. Sipari; she debuted the role of Suor Angelica for the
Illica Festival in Castell’Arquato conducted by F. Cassi and directed by
D. De Plano; she sang in a recital at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona for
the Macerata Opera Festival; she sang in Mozart’s Requiem at the
Cathedral of Sant’Alessandro in Bergamo, broadcast live on TV; she debuted
the role of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello at the Teatro Comunale di
Bologna directed by G. Lavia and conducted by A. Fisch, a role she also
performed at the Opera of Craiova and Brasov (Romania) and later at the
Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine under the baton of Maestro D. Oren and
directed by G. Ciabatti.
She recently performed as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly in
Malta and then again in Cremona, Como, Bergamo, and Pavia conducted by A.
D’Agostini and directed by R. Gaitanou; she debuted as Leonora in Il
Trovatore in Bologna directed by D. Livermore and conducted by R.
Palumbo; she returned to Malta in the role of Mimì in La Bohème;
she was again Cio-Cio San at the Shanghai Grand Opera in a co-production
with the Royal Opera House in London conducted by Xu Zhong and directed by
Leiser/Caurier; she debuted the role of Maddalena di Coigny in Andrea
Chénier in Pisa, Cremona, Brescia, Como, Pavia, Lucca, and Rovigo
directed by A. Cigni and conducted by F. Pasqualetti; and she debuted the
role of Tosca at the Oper Klosterneuburg in Austria under the baton of F.
Cilluffo.
Among her future engagements are her debut at the Teatro Lirico di
Cagliari in the role of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, and her debut
at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne in the role of Tosca. She has performed in
concerts in Brazil, Russia, China, and Japan.
