Eleonora Buratto - Soprano - W Print

Eleonora Buratto was born in Mantua, Italy. After graduating from the “Lucio Campiani” Conservatory, she continued her studies under the guidance of Luciano Pavarotti and then with Paola Leolini.

She made her operatic debut in the role of Musetta in La Bohème in 2007, after winning the competition “Adriano Belli” in Spoleto. Eleonora Buratto made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2009 with the role of Creusa in Demofoonte by Jommelli, reprising the role at Opéra Garnier and the Ravenna Festival, Riccardo Muti conducting. In 2011 she continued her collaboration with M° Muti taking on the role of Susanna in the world premiere in modern times of I due Figaro by Mercadante at the Teatro Real of Madrid, at the Salzburg Festival and at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, then in 2012 with Amelia in Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and on tour to Japan with the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and in 2013 with Norina in Don Pasquale at Teatro Real in Madrid and at Teatro dell’Opera in Rome.

Furthermore, in the past seasons, she sang Corinna at the Dutch National Opera’s Il Viaggio a Reims, directed by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by Stefano Montanari; Liù in Turandot at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, conducted by Juraj Valčuha; Contessa D'Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Rome Opera, in the famous Giorgio Strehler production. Other notable engagements include: Nannetta in Falstaff conducted by Zubin Mehta at the Salzburg Festival, and as Alice under Riccardo Muti at the Ravenna Festival and in Bilbao; Adina in L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Real di Madrid and at the Zurich Opernhaus; Musetta in La Bohème at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, at the Montpellier Festival, and at the Teatro Regio in Turin and on tour in Shangai under Gianandrea Noseda. She was Despina in Così fan tutte at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia and took on the role of Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare in Egitto by Händel, with Accademia Bizantina conducted by Ottavio Dantone; Micaela in Carmen at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples under Zubin Mehta. 

Recently she also took part in Ariadne auf Naxos in the role of Echo conducted by Daniel Harding at the Salzburg Festival; Alice in Falstaff on tour in Italy; she made her exciting debut at the Teatro alla Scala singing Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Norina in Don Pasquale, Maurizio Benini conducting. She has also starred in Falstaff with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and R. Mutiand at the Savonlinna Festival; in La Bohème (Mimì) at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Marc Piollet / Jonathan Miller); Le Nozze di Figaro (Contessa d'Almaviva) at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam (Ivor Bolton/David Bösch), at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, in Japan on tour with the Wiener Staatsoper and R. Muti conducting, and at La Scala in Milan; La Bohème at the Opernhaus in Zurich, at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and at the Dresden Semperoper; Donna Anna in a new production of Don Giovanni at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and at the Lyon Opera; Carmen (Micaela) at the Teatro Real in Madrid and in Chicago, Harry Bicket conducting; Turandot (Liù) and Carmen (Micaela) at the Arena in Verona and at the Royal Opera House in London; Verdi's Requiem in Naples; Elettra in Idomeneo new production by Carsen at the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the Massimo in Palermo, Daniel Cohen conducting; Simon Boccanegra at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Highlights of her concert activity include Mahler's 2nd Symphony under Daniele Gatti for her debut at the Teatro del Maggio in Florence; a solo recital at the Wigmore Hall in London and in Castiglioncello del Trinoro; a solo gala concert in Mantua, her native town; Mahler's 4th Symphony in Naples, Michele Mariotti conducting; Rossini's Stabat Mater in Toledo and in Rome with Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia; Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle at the Wiener Konzerhaus and in Luxembourg.

Future plans include: Turandot at the Metropolitan in New York; Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) in Lyon; Simon Boccanegra (Amelia) in Berlin (Deutsche Oper); Luisa Miller (title role) in Barcelona; Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) in Tokyo New National Theatre; La Bohème (Mimì) in Berlin Staatsoper, in Köln and Madrid; Rusalka in Amsterdam; Turandot in New York;  and other important productions at La Scala in Milan and in New York.
