Davide Giangregorio
Bass

After graduating in singing and piano, and completing studies in organ and chamber music at the “N. Sala” Conservatory of Benevento, he was admitted to advanced training academies such as the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, Accademia del Belcanto Rodolfo Celletti, Accademia Rossiniana Alberto Zedda, and Accademia del Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto. In 2018 he won the Toti dal Monte Competition in Treviso and in 2019 the As.Li.Co. Competition; in 2021 he was awarded the First Prize and the Best Bass Prize at the Giulio Neri Competition. In 2022 he won the Mozart Prize at the 59th Viñas Competition in Barcelona.

He has sung with internationally renowned conductors including Fabio Luisi, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding, Oksana Lyniv, Xu Zhong, George Petrou, Ottavio Dantone, Francesco Lanzillotta, Nikolas Nägele, Stefano Montanari, Yves Abel, and Carlo Montanaro. Among the most important directors he has worked with are Mario Martone, Graham Vick, Robert Carsen, Hugo de Ana, Leo Muscato, Emma Dante, Damiano Michieletto, Davide Livermore, Arnaud Bernard, Alessandro Talevi, and Chiara Muti.

Among the most significant engagements of previous seasons: Alidoro in La Cenerentola at the Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari, the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, and the Maria Callas Theatre in Athens; Alfonso d’Este in Lucrezia Borgia at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Stadttheater Essen; Leporello in Don Giovanni at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari and Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Shanghai Opera House, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and in a co-production by the theatres of Treviso, Ferrara, and Jesi; Sacristan in Tosca (season opener) at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia conducted by M° Daniel Harding; Dulcamara in L'Elisir d’Amore and Osmin in Mozart’s Zaide at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma conducted by M° Daniele Gatti and directed by G. Vick; Le Gouverneur in Le Comte Ory at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Licinius in Aureliano in Palmira and Mustafà in Adina at the Rossini Opera Festival; Blansac in La Scala di Seta on the ROF tour at the ROH in Muscat (Oman); Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv; Ferrando in Il Trovatore at the Macerata Opera Festival; Rodolfo in La Sonnambula and Walter in Guglielmo Tell for AsLiCo; Togrul in La Donna Serpente by A. Casella at the Festival della Valle d'Itria conducted by M° Fabio Luisi; Gaudenzio in Il Signor Bruschino at La Fenice in Venice; Colline in La Bohème at the Teatro Regio in Turin; Noye in Noye’s Fludde by B. Britten in Sassari; Masetto in Don Giovanni in the AsLiCo circuit theatres directed by Graham Vick, as well as at Theater Basel, Teatro La Fenice, and Stadttheater Klagenfurt; Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Stresa Festival; Achilla in a new production of Giulio Cesare by Händel directed by Chiara Muti and conducted by M° Ottavio Dantone with the Accademia Bizantina, at the theatres of Ravenna, Modena, Piacenza, Lucca, Reggio Emilia, Bolzano, and in concert form at the Opera de Tenerife; Duncan\A Courtier\Macduff in Macbeth by Salvatore Sciarrino in Salzburg; and Don Alfonso in Così Fan Tutte at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

In the baroque repertoire: he inaugurated the 2021 Monteverdi Festival performing Pluto in Orfeo and Pluto in Il Ballo delle Ingrate by C. Monteverdi at the Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona. He sang Jesus in J.S. Bach’s Johannes Passion, Ubaldo in La Serva Padrona by G.B. Pergolesi. He also performed several modern premieres such as the role of Polinestor in Polidoro by A. Lotti at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza and Pluto in Orfeo by N. Porpora at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca.

In sacred and symphonic music he has sung Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mozart’s Krönungsmesse at the Vatican Sacred Music Festival, Mozart’s Requiem and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and Haydn’s Missa in Tempore Belli in Como, Cremona, and Taranto.

He has performed world premieres of contemporary music repertoire: 5th Woman in CO2 by G. Battistelli at La Scala with staging by R. Carsen; Herald in Il Canto S’Attrista, Perché? by S. Sciarrino at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt; lead role in the opera The Return by S. Steen-Andersen for the Venice Biennale; Dante in Schicchi e Puccini by S. Monterisi at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza.

Among the 2025-26 season engagements are: Achilla in Giulio Cesare by Händel at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari in the production by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by M° Stefano Montanari; Duncan\A Courtier\Macduff in Macbeth by Salvatore Sciarrino in Parma; Colline in La Bohème at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; and Alidoro in La Cenerentola at the Teatro Regio in Turin.

He teached Chamber Vocal Music at the “C. Pollini” Conservatory of Music in Padua and at the “G. B. Pergolesi” Conservatory of Music in Fermo. From September 2024 he becomes Singing Professor at the “A. Buzzolla” Conservatory of Music in Adria.
