As one of today’s foremost Italian dramatic baritones, Claudio Sgura has established himself on the world’s leading stages with his performances in the Verdi, Puccini and verismo repertoire.
A native of Puglia, he first came to international attention at the “Voci Verdiane” Competition in Busseto in 2006.
He made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan the following year as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly,
under the musical direction of Myung-Whun Chung.
He has since appeared at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, Opéra National de Paris,
Opernhaus Zürich, Bavarian State Opera, Sydney Opera House, New National Theatre Tokyo,
Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, ABAO Bilbao, Palm Beach Opera, and Den Norske Opera in Oslo.
Highlights of the 2026 season include his return to Aida at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing
and at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo; Tosca at the Teatro Regio in Turin;
La fanciulla del West at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; Cavalleria rusticana at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo;
and his debut in Lohengrin at the Teatro Comunale in Piacenza.
