Anna Goryachova was born in St Petersburg and graduated from the
Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in her native city. She later studied with
Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton at the Accademia Nazionale di
Santa Cecilia in Rome and with Romualdo Savastano at the A.R.T. Academy of
Music.
She is the winner of numerous prizes in international competitions,
including Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition in
Moscow.
In the 2020/21 season Anna received Valencia’s “Best Mezzo-Soprano of the
Season” award for the role of Angelina in La Cenerentola, staged
by Laurent Pelly at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.
From 2008 to 2011 she was a soloist at the Mikhailovsky Theatre and the
St. Petersburg Opera.
In 2010 she was nominated for the Russia’s Golden Mask National Theatre
Award for her performance in the role of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni
staged by Yuri Alexandrov. In 2011 under the baton of Alberto Zedda,
she made her debut at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp as Marchesa Melibea (Il
viaggio a Reims, Mariame Clément’s production). From 2012 to 2017
Anna was part of the ensemble at the Opernhaus Zürich, where she performed
the roles of Adalgisa (Bob Wilson’s production of Norma), Rosina (Il
Barbiere di Siviglia), Polina (Pique Dame), Marchesa Melibea
(Il viaggio a Reims), Magdalena (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg),
Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Eustazio (Handel’s Rinaldo), Zelim
(Vivaldi’s La verità in cimento), Masha (Eötvös’ Three Sisters).
In 2012 Anna sang the role of Alcina (Orlando paladino) at the
Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and made her debut at the Rossini Festival in
Pesaro as Edoardo (Matilde di Shabran) staged by Mario Martone and
conducted by Michele Mariotti and she came back the year after for
Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri, staged by Davide Livermore).
She made her debut at the Opéra national de Paris as Ruggiero (Handel’s
Alcina, staged by Robert Carsen and conducted by Christoph
Rousset); at the Dutch National Opera as Marchesa Melibea in Damiano
Michieletto’s production of Il viaggio a Reims and also as Polina
(Pique Dame); at the Norske Opera in Oslo as Angelina (La
Cenerentola) conducted by Antonino Fogliani; at the Royal Opera
House in London as Carmen staged by Barrie Kosky; as Clara in
Tcherniakov’s production of Betrothal in a Monastery under the
baton of Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Unter der Linden in Berlin; at
the Wiener Staatsoper in the role of Olga (Eugene Onegin); as
Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Mariinsky Theatre in St.
Petersburg; as Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the New National Theatre in
Tokyo and as Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito) at the Wiener Festwochen
under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock.
She has collaborated with such conductors as Teodor Currentzis, Nello
Santi, Fabio Luisi, Alain Altinoglu, Enrique Mazzola, Riccardo Frizza,
Ottavio Dantone, Stefano Montanari and Daniele Rustioni among others.
Other past engagements worth mentioning are: Carmen at the
Teatro Real in Madrid (production by Calixto Bieito) and at the Arena di
Verona (conductor Hugo de Ana); Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the
Opernhaus Zürich; Polina (Pique Dame) at London's Covent Garden
under the baton of Pappano; Dulcinée (Massenet's Don Quichotte)
and Verdi's Requiem under the baton of Luisi in Bregenz; at the
Grand Théâtre de Genève the roles of Angelina and Sextus (La Clemenza
di Tito) conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev; Angelina (La
Cenerentola) and Carmen at the Wiener Staatsoper; Romeo (I
Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Opéra Bastille in Paris (staged by
Robert Carsen and staged by Speranza Scappucci); Sara (Roberto Devereux)
at the Opernhaus Zürich; Tancredi at the Bregenzer Festspiele.
Since 2019 Anna has been a guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of
Russia, where she worked with Tugan Sokhiev and Christopher Moulds and has
performed the roles of Dido (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas), Rosina (Il
Barbiere di Siviglia) and Marchesa Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims).
Plans include: Betrothal in a Monastery at the MusikTheater an
der Wien and Carmen at the Royal Opera House in London, both
staged by Damiano Michieletto; Verdi's Requiem at the Opéra de
Marseille and Beethoven's Missa solemnis with the Atalanta
Symphony Orchestra.
