Andrea Giovannini graduated as an actor in 1990 from the Acting School in Bologna directed by Galante Garrone in Bologna. After some years in theatrical companies, in 1997 Andrea Giovannini began to study as opera singer with the director Massimo Romeo Piparo, he then made his debut in the Musical as protagonist in several productions in Italy, such as: Jesus Christ Super Star, My Fair lady, Evita. Afterwards he made his debut as Danilo in The Merry Widow under Massimo de Bernart, and he investigated further the Mozart’s repertoire under the guidance of Claudio Desderi and sang the roles of  Don Ottavio, Basilio and Ferrando in many productions. Worth mentioning his participation in the historical production of Così fan tutte at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, with the direction of Giorgio Strehler.


Andrea Giovannini also specialized in the Rossini’s repertoire: Conte d’Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo under Claudio Desderi and at the Festival in Tuscania, under Francesco La Vecchia; Idreno in Semiramide at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, under M° Gianluigi Gelmetti and then in the Tuscany Circuit.  In 2006 he also started to sing as a lyric tenor: Fenton in Falstaff in 2007 at the Grange Park Festival in London; Rodolfo in La Boheme in Dublin; Alfredo in La Traviata in Nurberg, Dijon and at the Saint-Cere Festival in France; il Conte di Bosco Nero in La Vedova Scaltra in Nice.

Moreover he interpreted the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi in Modena; Camillo de Rossillon in La Vedova Allegra at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, under Daniel Oren; Alfredo in La Traviata, produced by Opera Eclatée; the title role in  Les Contes d'Hoffman at the al Festival Saint-Céré Festival; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in Dijon; Rodolfo and then Tamino (Die Zauberfloete) in Massy, where he also sang as Carlos Medina in La Belle de Cadix (revivals took place in Clemont- Ferrand and on tour.)

He was Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore with the Opera Zuid and with the Poznan Philarmonie he sang in Giovanna D'Arco (Carlo VII).  Andrea Giovannini also took part in the Verdi's Requiem with the Brabant Orchestra in Eindoven (under Kees Bakels) and again in Poznan under Renato Palumbo.

Among his other past engagements, it is worth mentioning: Manon Lescaut (Maestro di ballo) under Riccardo Muti, Lucia di Lammermoor (Normanno), Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio), Tosca (Spoletta), Eugene Onegin, Benvenuto Cellini, La Traviata in Rome; L'amour des tres oranges, Manon Lescaut (Edmondo) under the baton of Bruno Bartoletti in Florence; Madama Butterfly (Goro) in Naples and Parma; La forza del destino and Falstaff in Parma;  Nabucco (Abdallo) in Cagliari; Norma (Flavio) in Turin; La Rondine (Prunier) in Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Modena and Ravenna.


Most recently he sang at the Teatro Regio in PagliacciFalstaff ,Paer's Agnese; Edmondo in Manon Lescaut in Verona; Action in West Side Story in Roma with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Antonio Pappano; Die Zauberfloete in Catania; Adriana Lecouvreur (Abate) besides Anna Netrebko and Marco Armiliato conducting at the Salzburg Festival, where he came back for Il Tabarro; Turandot at the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago; La Forza del Destino in Parma; and Dido&Aeneas/ Sette peccati capitali at the Comunale in Bologna and in Reggio Emilia.


As part of the Wiener Staatsoper ensemble Mr. Giovannini sang in productions as Madama Butterfly, Salome, Tosca, Falstaff, Le Nozze di Figaro, Adriana Lecouvreur, Werther, Boris Godunov, Der Rosenkavalier, La Fanciulla del West; Les Dialogues des Carmelites.


Plans include, amongst others: Il Tabarro at the Opéra National de Paris.
