Agostina Smimmero - Mezzo-Soprano - W Print

The young mezzo-soprano Agostina Smimmero graduated in Canto Lirico with highest honors at the Conservatorio "S. Pietro a Majella" in Naples.

Winner of several national and international opera contests, she won at the “International Singing Competition Montserrat Caballè” (first Italian singer awarded in the history of this contest). Furthermore: First Prize at the 2nd International Contest “Simone Alaimo”; First Prize at the “Marcello Giordani” Contest; finalist at the Opera Contest “Città di Bologna”; Special Prize at the International Contest “Ravello Città della Musica”.

Her repertoire includes already performed roles such as: Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana conducted by S. Alapont and directed by A. Cigni; Azucena in Il Trovatore, performed in the Saragozza Auditorium and at the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon; La Baronessa di Champigny in Nino Rota's Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze at the Florence Opera conducted by A. Battistoni and directed by A. Cigni; Maddalena in Rigoletto in Lisbon; Mercedes in Carmen at the Auditorium La Verdi in Milan, with A. Gazale conducted by J.  Bignamini; Fenena in Nabucco in Teramo, Chieti, Jesi and Ancona; Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Benevento on tour with the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

She has collaborated with directors such as: Andrea Cigni, Francesco Esposito, Enrico Stinchelli, Lucas Simon, Stefano Vizioli, Nicola Zorzi; and conductors as: Andrea Battistoni, Sergio Alapont, Martin Andrè, Maurizio Benini, Jader Bignamini, Salvatore Caputo, Alessandro Fabrizi, Antonino Fogliani, Juan Luis Martinez, Donato Renzetti, Ramon Tebar.  Active also in the concert side, she sang with Jaume Aragall, Andrea Bocelli, Paata Burchuladze, Montserrat Caballé, Fiorenza Cedolins, Sergi Giménez, Nicola Martinucci, Montserrat Marti, Joan Pons, Roberto Servile at the Gala of the Voice at Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna.

Most recently she sang Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Madrid National Orchestra and in Milan with I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra; Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana at Chiusi's Festival Orizzonti in Tuscany and at the Massimo in Palermo; Respighi’s La Campana Sommersa in Cagliari; Nabucco in Las Palmas; took part in the production of Suor Angelica at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; Un ballo in maschera (Ulrica) in Piacenza, Ravenna, Ferrara and Cagliari; Falstaff (Quickly) in Cagliari; Il Trovatore (Azucena) in Oviedo; La Gioconda (La Cieca) in Piacenza, Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Upcoming engagements include: Rigoletto in Taormina; Il Trovatore in Turin; Un ballo in maschera in Parma and Naples; Cavalleria rusticana in Bologna.
