Adolfo Corrado

Adolfo Corrado has been named BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2023.

Born in 1994, he trained theatrically at Augusto Zucchi's 'School of Theatre and Film Acting' in Rome. He then began his musical studies at the 'Tito Schipa' Conservatory of Music in Lecce, where he specialised under the guidance of Maestro Gianluca Belfiori. He continued his training at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as a Young Artist Project under the coordination of M° G. Tangucci.

He won the XLIX Edition of the International Competition TOTI DAL MONTE 2021, winning the role of Don Pasquale in the opera of the same name by G. Donizetti. He won the LXXIII Edition of the International Competition As.Li.Co. 2022, winning the role of Leporello in the opera Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart.

His most recent engagements have seen him perform in theatres such as: Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari (Don Pasquale, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Bohème), Arena di Verona (Nabucco), Teatro La Fenice in Venice (I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata, La Bohème, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9), Teatro dell'Opera di Roma (L'Italiana in Algeri); Teatro Regio di Torino (Turandot; La Scuola dei Gelosi; Lélio), Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Oedipus Rex; Siberia; Tosca), Salzburger Festspiele (Tosca), Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia (Don Giovanni), Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Andrea Chénier), Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca (Il Turco in Italia, Tancredi); Teatro Comunale di Bologna (Le Comte Ory); Donizetti Festival in Bergamo (Alfredo il Grande), Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago (La Bohème), Teatro San Carlo in Naples (Mass in C minor by Mozart); Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (La Cenerentola, Norma), Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège (I Capuleti e i Montecchi); Opéra de Rouen (Aida), Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia (Il Trovatore), Teatro Verdi in Pisa (Il Turco in Italia) under the direction of maestros Daniel Oren, Zubin Mehta, Maurizio Benini, Gianandrea Noseda, Renato Palumbo, Daniele Gatti, Jordi Bernàcer, Sebastiano Rolli, Stefano Montanari, and Nikolas Nägele.

On the concert front, he recently performed: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 for the opening of the MiTo Festival conducted by Maestro Michele Spotti; Verdi’s Requiem with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano under the baton of Maestro Michele Gamba; Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Wiener Konzerthaus; Mozart’s Mass in C minor at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14 in Florence and Livorno with the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Riccardo Bisatti and at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca; Turandot in concert form with the Minnesota Orchestra; Il Trovatore in concert form with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano; and a gala at the Smetana Hall in Prague with the Prague Philharmonia.

Among his upcoming engagements for the 2025-26 season are: Macbeth at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto for the Verdi Festival; Rigoletto and Il Trovatore at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza; La Cenerentola at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden; Lucia di Lammermoor and La Sonnambula (concert version) at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl; Le nozze di Figaro at the Cologne Opera; Turandot at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan; La Cenerentola at the Opéra National de Paris; La Bohème at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Papal Basilica di San Pietro Fuori le Mura in Rome with the Orchestra of the Arena di Verona; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 for the opening of the concert season at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari; and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
